In the interview Sister Hopkins speaks about her three brothers who are priests. They, too, form part of a relegious congregation, the Legionaries of Christ.

"Sister" Chittester will not be pleased. How dare these women reject the "Spirit of Vatican II" by joining a bona fide religious order? When will the New York Slimes do an article on this Order? NEVER. Tom

TJM is right, I doubt these ladies will make the NYT. But NYT would be happy to interview Sr. C about how such orders are throwbacks to the bad old days, etc. etc.

Time Mag. did a decent piece on them about a year ago, if memory serves. Wasn't the best, more like "head scratching" at the phenom.

Thomas Peters, you are my favorite blogger, and you gave a shout out to the order that in one month, I'll be joining (Yeah! Sisters of Mary)! You clearly just made my day.
The more that people talk about good Holy Orders, the more that people let the Light of Christ fill them, the more that the world will take notice.
Also, you can check out that Time Magazine article here:

And an interview that the Today show did with the Sisters of Mary here:

See, the world is already taking notice.

How dare they adhere to Tradition and the Magisterium!
Screwtape, get a liberal bishop in that diocese to crush all vocations. And get those women out of their habits!
WHAT?! Benedict is in charge, with Sambi in Washington? How can we ever hope to have more liberal bishops? NOOOOOOOOOOO

I have aged considerably since those despicable and slanderous forgeries were released by the vile Mr. Lewis, and have an extended family. I'm an uncle of my own, now. Shame that he got away from us towards the end of his days, especially when we had him for so long!
Our kind, we've multiplied greatly in recent years. Even in chancery offices. ESPECIALLY in chancery offices.

The new high school in my home diocese of Arlington, VA, Pope John Paul the Great High School is being run by them.:
http://www.jpthegreat.org/
A few of them attend solemn mass regularily at my parish, and the new chaplain of the school is in residence there as well.
Not to brag, but i'm under the impression that this new high school is pretty big news in the world of American catholicism. The Holy Father himself blessed the tabernacle for the school during his Mass at Nationals Stadium in D.C.

Yeah, but yet again the natural celibates and hardcore geeks are disparaged. There's no sign that St. Thomas Aquinas ever desired to get married -- indeed, his gift of natural total celibacy was considered a wonderful thing. But here's Sister, saying that "The absence of such natural desire may signal a problem of selfishness or difficulty in giving or receiving love. Such an emotional handicap would make happiness in the religious life impossible."
St. Thomas Aquinas need not apply to the Dominicans, eh? Because yeah, he was sooooo selfish not to want to get married. Stay in your parents' little robber castle, Tommy!

What about 'older' women? What are we, chopped liver? I never went along with the liberal stuff that came into religlious life after Vatican II. I'm going to be 54 in a few weeks. It seems that none of the flourishing Orders out there will even LOOK at a 'post 35' woman!
I don't want to sound like a whiner, and I rejoice in the good Dominican Sisters' increase in numbers...but why are good faithful 'older' Catholic women left out of the vocations picture?
Just my thoughts.....

I recently went on a "sound seeing" tour of the convent here in Nashville with the current vocations director Sister Mary Emily and another sister who works with her, Sister Cecilla Joseph for the Catholic Vocations Podcast. During the tour near the end, Sister Cecilla Joseph discussed how the mother superior at the time of Vatican II made every effort to hold on to the congregations traditions. Sister said that mother made sure all the full documents (not just selected excepts) of the council were available and that sisters read them. I think is a big part of the reason why this congregation is so holy and fruitful with vocations today. They stuck it out during the bad times and remained faithful to the Church and to the Lord.
You can find the episode here.

The article mentioned the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor, Michigan as being the Nashville Dominicans' "Daughter Community". That is not correct. The four founding members of the Ann Arbor Sisters left the Nashville Sisters of their own initiative and are not considered a branch or a daughter Community.
