Gravatar Bishops abroad are not bound by church/state ethics and IRS regulations as American Bishops are. Further, the Bishop of Portsmouth, while a good man, no doubt, as are most Bishops, is less likely to influence an American election as an American Bishop endorsing a candidate.

In all seriousness, if a nation in which religious clerics make or break a government is desirable, try Iran.

why sweat the IRS ...income tax or anything else? the bishops should fight them tooth and nail. the first bishops were put to lions and now they sit on their hands and remain mute because of regulations.....you need to re-read your own post and see how silly that it sounds. LIBERALS MAKE POLITICAL SPEECHES IN CHURCHES DAILY.........am i the only person that has noticed that the gov. does not attack those churches......

Gravatar Actually, Ringo, they do. See All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, CA, re: the 2004 election.

Gravatar A nice "Magic Circle" backpedal there.

Gravatar Somebody got a phone call....
