This is why I think the Vatican Guard should have a Spec Ops team that could mount a rescue.

Of course, thinking things like the above is why Papa Benny is holier than I am and why he consistently doesn't consult me on such matters.

Gravatar ok, bad taste viking. and that's coming from one who tends not to be a puritan troll.

Gravatar The outcome here will be interesting. A recent study by a former CIA operative suggests that most of these terrorists in Iraq are simply bored youth who aren't educated or religiously devoted like Osama and his cronies. So it's possible they release him quickly, or to prove themselves to be real tough guys, they do the worst. Personally, I think since these punks are less committed than Zarqawi and company, the archbishop will be freed and unharmed. Let's hope, anyway.

Gravatar Nathan. Ok, maybe. let's hope. but murdering three people on the way to grabbing the eparch doesn't leave the rest of us very optimistic. these kids weren't exactly joy-riding in somebody's car, were they.

Gravatar That's why I said this could turn out either way.

Gravatar Since I realize anyone can say it could turn out either way, I stand by my prediction that I'm confident he'll be released. If these criminals aren't overly committed to the cause, then I have my doubts that they would do in such a prominent religious figure when they themselves, according to the study, aren't religious fanatics. I think they just want to show what they're capable of doing, and they'll release the dude somewhere along an abandoned road. Since the fates of the kidnapped are usually determined within 48 hours, I suppose we'll know in about 24 hours.

In another note, how people think we should immediately withdraw from Iraq continues to boggle my mind.

Gravatar Has anyone seen this story reported on the news?
