Make that came to Saint Joseph's (which describes itself as "a Catholic, Jesuit University") last night. Perhaps there's a Papist Hawk out there who attended and can comment?

Dear Joanna,

What was the nature of "Obama's Catholic Outreach" event last night at St. Joseph's University: http://www.sju.edu/calendar/2008.../2008...008/09/ 3808.php?

Didl it discuss the fact that Obama supports abortion, infanticide in some cases, ESCR, cloning, euthanasia, and homosexual marriage, all of which are blatantly against the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church? Did it discuss the fact that any sincere Catholic with an ounce of common sense ought to reject Obama categorically from the word "go"?

I sure hope so. Given that St. Joseph's is a Catholic university after all, I'd consider such an informative stance taken by the university a must, and a duty to its students, faculty and staff.

If not, and if this outreach tried to somehow justify voting for Obama, then whoever is responsible for heading up this event may be in danger of giving scandal to Catholic people of good will, not to mention the malformation of their consciences. It would be a terrible misrepresentation of what the Church teaches now, has always taught and will always teach on these serious matters.

I recently visited a friend at a Jesuit university out west. I was in complete shock and disgusted at the amount of Obama supporters they have (that, or the conservatives on campus were not very vocal). God forbid you mention McCain, and all you'll get is that "Ew, are you serious?!?" look from people. It was actually quite discouraging as most of the students I met were spoiled rich kids who probably don't contribute one penny to their outrageous $35,000 per year tuition.

If you are going to say the St. Joseph University chapter of College Democrats can't invite a representative of their presidential nominee to speak at one of their meetings, why don't get some courage and say the College Dems should be banned?

But anyway, yes, Catholic college campus have been a gold mine of support for Obama - Biden. The Republicans have already come up with all sorts of ways to obstruct them from voting.
