The Baltimore Jesuit Connection
A little internet searching reveals that one of the three women in the Boston event, Gloria Carpeneto, less than a year ago she led a retreat for Ignatian volunteers in the Maryland Jesuit province. How wonderful (not) that the Society of Jesus is so inclusive as to raise up as a spiritual leader one who denies the teaching of Holy Father, whom the Society is vowed to obey, and the Church's deposit of faith as established by Our Lord, whose Name they bear.

Well, the penalty is latae sententiae, so.... Example number I-don't-know-what of why latae sententiae penalties have out-lived their usefulness. No one learns anything from them and they now serve mostly as a way around having to confront canonical crimes head-on.

Also not sure about how the latae sententiae really serves as an ecclesiastical discipline to help the person who has sinned to repent. Especially in a circumstance where they will be heading up their own church.
Though the positive thing about this type of excommunication is at least others can know that this act does result in auto-excommunication.
It does seem to me that further and stronger action must be taken by the diocese in these instances.

There was an Archdiocesan statement given to the local media here where Cardinal O'Malley said the women, by their acts, had excommunicated themselves. I'll see if I can find it.

I am pretty much over these stories.
So what? They get more pixels and column inches than they deserve.
This same story - with the names and locations changing - has been run at least annually in the National Catholic Reporter for at least 20 years.
So what?
What becomes of these loons who are "courageously sticking it to the man" in their "quest for justice" in "following their conscience" and what not?
Where are their growing congregations? Religous orders? Real churches? Bricks and mortar? Charities? Mission efforts?
Whoopity-doo! Who gives a care?
It is just delusional.

From the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Boston:
The organization calling itself "Roman Catholic Womenpriests" is not recognized as an entity of the Catholic Church. Catholics who attempt to confer a sacred order on a woman, and the women who attempt to receive a sacred order, are by their own actions separating themselves from the Church.
