Gravatar My spiritual director had me read the Bible cover-to-cover, as it happened, during law school.

Gravatar Well Ed, best to start with the fairest of the Law, right? I believe God invented LAW.

Gravatar I read the whole Bible (and most of the catechism) as I was preparing to convert. It was amazing. The one thing I did that helped me was I started with the New Testament. In the past I started with the Old Testament and got bogged down with all the geneological information. :)

Gravatar Jeff Cavins' THE GREAT ADVENTURE BIBLE SERIES would be a great place to start. It begins airing today (Saturday) On EWTN at 2:00PM eastern time. The first episode is introductory in nature and should not be used to judge the overall series. EWTN Radio also airs it on Sunday nights at 8:00 Eastern time.

St Martha's Catholic Church in Texas also offers some fine online audio lectures and studies of various books of the bible.

St Irenaeus Ministries also offers some excellent podcasts on Scipture, including and entire series on Hebrews and the Gospel of Luke.

Gravatar Unfortunately they still aren't going to be reading the whole Bible.

Gravatar Catholic Answers has "My Daily Catholic Bible" which takes you through the whole Bible in a year in about 20 minutes a day of reading! I started, but haven't been able to do it every day. Very interesting to find out in Maccabees that the building of a gymnasium in Jerusalem for working out led to the Jews falling away from the law!

Gravatar Catholics had almost no familiarity with the Bible pre-Vatican II. Vatican II freed Catholic scholars to collaborate with Biblical scholars on translations and exegesis. Bible History ("Salvation History") became part of the parochial school curriculum. Most of us, however, would just do well to study the Gospels and work on witnessing to the compassion of Christ and the centrality of the Eucharist to our Communion of Faith. Same goes for the Bishops.
