I heard someone on Joel Osteen's show, his wife I believe, was saying something to the effect that our worship "activates" God's power in our lives. Even with my poor 11th grade catechism education that seemed somewhat off.
Feh. Joel inherited the church leadership role from his dad. He could have a degree in Ditch Digging and still be doing what he's doing, there wasn't any kind of search process. And I guess if you view his "ministry" more as entertainment than helping people encounter the divine, then maybe he's not so poorly prepared.
Wow, I've seen this book all over the place and it irks me too. Now I know why I dislike it so much...I wish there was a way to file false advertising on some of these people.
Oh, forgot to mention its the Joel Osteen book I was talking about.

Sure it's a help!
1) It helps his followers feel good about themselves.
2) It helps him make money.

The most quick-witted line I've ever spoken was in response to an unexpected question about Joel Osteen.
"So, what do you think about Joel Osteen and ?"
"Well, he seems like a nice guy. Unfortunatly, his message has nothing to do with Christianity."
The Cardinal in Chicago lives in a mansion and drives around in limos. Joel may not have gone to seminary, but there's not a priest or bishop I've ever seen who can inspire people the way Joel Osteen can.
Cardinal George has a Buick LaSabre not a limo. Virtually everyone over 70 drives one of them. John Paul II is priest that inspired people more than Joel Osteen.
