Bishop Sheridan cited canon 915 in his statement. Is he maybe trying to turn up the heat a little? I never thought I'd say this, but the bishops are swarming like sharks.

Anyone remember when this came up with Kerry during the last election cycle? The then-Archbishop of Washington had a very public gaff concerning his statement's conformity with the statement of the then-head of the CDF (who is now the Pope.) And that was concerning theoretically denying Kerry communion. This is based on statements from the printed record that directly oppose the teachings of the Church, and I don't think anyone wants to find themselves standing where the former Archbishop of Washington found himself standing four years ago (especially since Card. Ratzinger got promoted.)
