After all, it can be hard enough to keep a firm custody of the eyes at Mass, especially nowadays.

Wow. I had no idea that you went to a Catholic Low Church, or even that such existed. At every Catholic Church I've been to the priest is totally covered in vestments (alb, chasuble, stole, etc). If in some alternate reality the Catholic church were to ordain women, the outfit that you think would give you trouble keeping firm custody of your eyes would be wholly covered.

Gravatar Yeah, but you have to admit those dimensions aren't bad.

Gravatar As for the issue our anonymous friend attempted to mock, well, sure, she might be vested during mass, but once one "loses custody of his eyes" outside mass when his priestess isn't vested, I would think it might be difficult to keep a proper state of mind during the celebration. Now, I fully recognize that this isn't exactly a theological reason for not having priestesses (for that, see the ToB among other arguments); still, it is an issue.

Servant of God John Paul the Great, ora pro nobis!

Gravatar Aw, c'mon, I'm completely against female ordination, but the "custody of the eyes" point is completely moot. There are handsome priests as well. Who make us women want to curse the day they decided to become priests - "what a waste!" It's so bad. Yet surely good-looking men shouldn't be banned from the priesthood.

I wonder if anyone would buy that top. "Huh" indeed.

Gravatar The custody of the eyes argument dates back to when people didn't want to believe that women had sexual desires.

Plenty of women call their priest "Fr. What-a-waste". I know two priests who were actively pursued by female parishioners.

Gravatar Well, black is rather slimming they say. No doubt the Episcies are snapping this little number up.
I am hopelessly reminded of the "Papal Pantsuit" with its bloomer-style legs designed by Father Guido Sarducci for the first female Pope.

Gravatar Well, I agree. May this trend never infect Mother Church.

Gravatar Well as a woman I can't help but look at a man in vestments and want to rip them off vow of celibacy or not! Nothing hotter than the swirling medieval black robes and high necked collars ...

I am of course being totally facetious. Does anyone realize of all the 7 sacraments the ones that are reserved for women are either marriage or to become a nun. Both sacraments deal directly with SEX a vow of chastity or a vow that is consecrated via sex. So if you see this photograph as threatening it's no wonder. The Catholic church has already reduced a woman to her sexual function.

Here's a question: If I priest must be "in persona christi" for the Eucharist, what happens if through a tragic accident his penis is cut off? Removed of the oh so important phallus is he still "in persona christi" or should he be stripped of his ability to consecrate the Eucharist?

Since Jesus' only earthly chromosomes came directly from a woman and his father was God, doesn't that arguably make every woman more in persona christi that any man?

Hey it was Magdalene that delivered the good news ...
