The Usual Suspects

Gravatar Or, if somebody that is planning on being in the audience were to try this approach:

http://www.priestsforlife.org/ is...whatyoumean.pdf

Gravatar I used Fr. Pavone's words on a blog from the Boston Globe article by Ellen Goodman. The remarks came back about my being too concerned with the gore and guts. HMMMMM Isn't that exactly what abortion is?

Could someone, please, flip the switch on the disposal.

Just the facts Ma'am.

Gravatar Perhaps Bishop Boyea could follow Bishop Martino's lead: pop in and make "Decide in Faith: A Presidential Forum" a real teaching moment for the folks in Ann Arbor.

Gravatar Kmiec's national tour continues in Ann Arbor. I saw the flyer for the one at Oakland U, and it was left off that it is co-sponsored by Catholics United for the Common Good. http://www.catholicsinalliance.o....org/node/ 20185 CACG does not leave it off. I know some folks going who are strongly pro-life, and will represent things well. I may decide to go myself, but I'm not sure if I could without getting terribly angry and saying something terrible. Pray for the success of the truly pro-life voices.

Gravatar In the above post I mean Catholics in Alliance or Allied or whatever. There are so many carbon copies of this group. There is another site I found from 2004 that used just about the same rhetoric.

Gravatar Hey- it looks like this story has been removed from the website. It must have been taken down.

Gravatar I'm not seeing it either.

Gravatar The Decide in Faith event is being held at Oakland University which is the Archdiocese of Detroit- Archbishop Maida territory.

Gravatar They're also doing it again on the 28th at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Gravatar Looks like that statement is no longer public and the Bishop withdrew it.

Gravatar Nope- Just got an email for both events from the Campus Minister at OU for both the Oakland U and UofM events. Just found out that the OU one is now being sponsored by Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good- I thought it was only by the Archdiocese & St. John Fisher (OU Newman Center). The 'Decide in Faith' name is being used for all election-related events sponsored by the Archdiocese of Detroit Office of Campus and Young Adult Ministry.

Gravatar The Ann Arbor version: "CATHOLICS AND THE 2008 ELECTIONS: A Presidential Forum. Tuesday, October 28, 7-9PM, U-M Union Ballroom on State Street. FEATURING Obama Surrogate: Douglas Kmiec, Professor, Pepperdine University, Former advisor to President Reagan. McCain Surrogate: David Wilson, Michigan Co-Chair of Catholics for McCain. Sponsored by Newman Catholic Student Association & Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good."

I plan to go, although I'm not sure I can add anything as I don't tend to be articulate under pressure. At the very least, I can sit through the arguments and offer up my suffering for an end to abortion. But if any AmP readers are in the area and would like to lend your support, please do come out.

Gravatar The Ann Arbor event wasn't a debate. The presenters had an opening and a closing statement, and in between there were questions prepared in advance but not known to the presenters. There were no jaw-dropping moments, but I came away feeling very, very disturbed. It was more what wasn't said... Kmiec purported to be answering the abortion and life issues questions head-on, while in reality he very neatly avoided any mention of Obama's true position on abortion. (This is me editorializing, but I don't have space to sum up exactly what he said.) In his closing remarks he described being kept out of Seton Hill and the experience of being denied communion...seems to want to convey the image of a persecuted victim of his own Church. Yet reflecting on his vague and evasive answers on the abortion and ESCR questions, I don't think he really believes what he himself is saying. I can't understand why he is doing this, but given the slickness of his answers, I find it easier to see why much of the room was unabashedly on the Obama side. I was so perturbed, I had to go straight over to our 40 Days for Life site and do some spiritual warfare.
