Which is interesting, as Mr. F seems to be responding to what a handful of bishops have said and the (mis)understanding certain strong conservatives have of the bishops' statement. Sister seems to affirm the understand I and most in my circle have of the bishops statement -- racism is a real issue in today's public policy discernments, Catholics are not being called to be one-issue voters, etc.

Oh, Pshaw! I really don't believe that Joe meant to damn the Bishops to hell. (Unlike Charlton Heston who damned mankind to hell for destroying civilization and turning monkeys into men.)

It was a bit of an expletive, but colloquially, he must have meant that we should ignore the Bishops' advice. At our own peril, of course. Fortunately, the voting booth, like the confessional, is private.
