Bee swarms are perfectly normal, particularly in spring. Probably these bees had good reason to move from their hive, and were looking for a good new home. The restaurant, for some reason, seemed like a good place to the young queen.

The creepy thing is when a dead beekeeper's bees swarm over his coffin.

I like your version! Esp the part about "Let my people go!" which sounds as if it's the bees themselves that are protesting, tho I'm not sure what.

Whether or not that particular event meant anything Biblical (probably though), although the bracketing was quite enlightening and insightful, certainly the dissappearane of the honeybees in itself is of ominous Biblical proportion.
