Gravatar I suppose we should give Nancy some slack here.

After all, she probably came on the program to discuss with Mr. Brokow her plans to save the planet and wasn't expecting such questions about life.

Gravatar I don't even know what to say. Is she living in a cave? St. Augustine spoke about what he knew in his age. How much further we have come from 400 AD. She needs to spend some time on the neonatal floor, and then go to confession.

How could she ever approach Holy Communion again after this public fiasco?

Gravatar Somebody recently told me that if voting for Obama (and indirectly any pro-abortion politician) was wrong, then why do so many bishops tell us it is okay.

A good reminder to pray for our bishops because they are going to be responsible for the loss of many souls for their failure to teach and correct.

Gravatar For what it's worth . . . my research does not reveal any Senator with the last name "Augustine."

There has, however, been one U.S. Senator with the first name of Augustine.

That would be Sen. Augustine Lonergan (D-Ct.), who represented Connecticut from 1933 to 1939.

His views on fetal life and neo-natal development are not readily discernible.

Gravatar Wow, Nancy...don't hurt yourself.

Gravatar Running with bad facts is more dangerous than running with scissors.

Someone posted a great comment at Fr. Z's, "Everyone who has ever bought a pack of condoms knows when life begins."

Gravatar Pelosi is a perfect example of someone whose ideaology has, after a number of years, simply snuffed out her ability to reason.

Gravatar Nancy, claims she's to be an "ardent Catholic." Well Lucifer can quote scripture. So what. Her true religion
is the Democratic Party. I think the botox has gotten to her brain. Tom

Gravatar "Everyone who has ever bought a pack of condoms knows when life begins."

That was me, but it's not my quote. I can't remember where I read it.

Gravatar WHO IS FR.Z?

Gravatar WHO IS FR.Z?

Go to this link. Possibly the best blog by a priest out there.

Gravatar That's just an opinion, Scott.

Gravatar That's just an opinion, Scott.

Thanks for pointing out the bleedin' obvious.

Gravatar Three things strike me.

First, the gratitude directed to heaven for "clear-headed legislators" is misplaced. It is Justice Harry Blackmun who created the "very clear distinctions," I believe "arbitrary" is the word Blackmun used in his private papers, between the various trimesters. In doing so, the Justice not only overrode centuries of philosophical and theological debate, but also will of the people, as expressed by duly passed legislation making abortion illegal, in almost every state of this country.

Second, as someone who has studied the issue for a "long time," I'm sure M(r)s. Pelosi is aware of the distinction between conception and ensoulment and probably did not bring it up figuring it would be over Mr. Brokaw's head.

Third, regardless of whether St. Augustine knew exactly when life began, he certainly opposed all use of contraception. Cf. On Marriage and Concupiscence, Book I, Chapter 17 (which, in addition to condemning the use of contraception by married people, notes that some resort "to such extravagant methods as to use poisonous drugs to secure barrenness" an that, if this fails, they endeavor "to destroy the conceived seed by some means previous to birth, preferring that its offspring should rather perish than receive vitality; or if it was advancing to life within the womb, should be slain before it was born").

Gravatar Fantastic, well-thought points, crazylikeknoxes!

Gravatar Er, uh, your spelling was exactly competent.

Gravatar I suggest that Mme. Pelosi get herself an copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and read the section starting with paragraph 2270!
Then, she should check out the verso of the title pate and check who gave permission for the book to be published -- None other than Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, now known as Pope Benedict XVI!

Gravatar It always amazes me when one of these liberal pro-abortion folks talks about the "balance" that was struck in Roe's "trimester" analysis.

Haven't they heard of [the ironically named] Planned Parenthood v. Casey, 505 U.S. 833 (1992), which rejected the trimester framework as "rigid?"

Gravatar WWWWOOOOOOWWWW!!!!

With reasoning this strong, I think we may have a future Doctor of the Woman Priests Church on our hands.

Gravatar She shows not only her ignorance as a theologian, but also as a politician, of the law as decided in Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton.

Abortion is legal for all nine months of pregnancy with no restrictions other than perhaps it must be done in one of the unregulated and unsanitary clinics with fake doctors even after birth!
The gestational age is not relevant to Roe. The woman and her doctor have the 'right' according to Roe and Doe at any time during the nine months.

Gravatar Perhaps I will mail her a CCC tomorow.
