Gravatar Yeah, but do you think he'll be allowed to talk about abortion? I would guess no. Especially with BO's record.

Gravatar Let's see if I follow the Democrats' reasoning here . . .

Their nominee supports a practice that pierces the skulls of unborn children and suctions out their brains;

Their nominee voted against a law that would have protected the life and dignity of an infant who survived an abortion;

Their nominee has called a baby a "punishment;"

But they think that faithful Catholics would be willing to set all of that aside . . . so long as their nominee invites Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. to speak at their convention?

What do they take us for?!?

Gravatar Casey the younger has earned a 65% rating from NARAL. Not my definition of anti-abortion. Seems his actions speak louder than his words.

Gravatar But they think that faithful Catholics would be willing to set all of that aside . . . so long as their nominee invites Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. to speak at their convention?

Unfortunately they do and there will be many Catholics duped into accepting it. What matters is not that they ask him to speak but that "Catholics" like Nancy Pelosi stand up and say we are going to ban abortion and make it illegal. We are going to provide women who find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy with all the resources necessary to help them during and post pregnancy. Only by making abortion illegal will we be able to stop it from being used as a form of birth control, just another option if they happen to get pregnant.

Gravatar Catholics in the USA will have much to answer for when they stand before God. Anyone who has consistently voted for Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi et al shares alot of responsibility for the deaths of innocent children. Sad.

Gravatar As scandalous as it is that Catholics vote for pro-abortion politicians, what is worse is that the likes of Bob Casey endorse Obama. "Sen. Casey is a pro-life Catholic Democrat, and so am I. He supports Obama, so I can, too." I can see the bumper sticker now: Pro-life, pro-Obama.

You know, because Obama opposes the war, supports illegal immigration, opposes the death penalty, buys votes with government money--oops, I mean supports poverty relief.

Gravatar Not that I'm against poverty relief. I just wonder about the means. Whenever the government gives money away, the recipients tend to vote for the people who support the program, and politicians understand and exploit that dynamic.

Gravatar This is cynical, but I think it describes what is going on. . . .

If Casey speaks, it will likely be in a low-profile time slot and get little notice in the MSM.

The only reason for him to speak, if he does, is so that later on in the campaign, Democratic supporters of Obama can point back to Casey's appearance at the convention (with no care for what he said) as proof of how open and welcoming the Democrats and Obama supposedly are to those with pro-life positions. All are welcome within the Democratic tent, blah blah blah. Of course this would be rubbish.

In my opinion, if Casey speaks, it will merely be to provide a very convenient rhetorical talking point after the convention. After all, all one needs nowadays is a sound-bite statement that can be replayed in typically super short news bits. Serious discussion with context does not take place in the usual news outlets. The press will also refer many times on their own to a Casey appearance for the same reason. The content of his speech will be irrelevant. (except for those Catholics who would mistakenly think it would mean something significant about a shift in the Democratic party's attitude toward pro-lifers)

The disregard for life is so thorough now at the top levels of Democratic leadership that they can safely trot out a poster boy like Casey and even let him say some pro-life lines, with no worry at all that it would actually mean anything for where the party truly stands as a party.

Gravatar "In Pennsylvania, Catholic voters preferred Mrs. Clinton to Mr. Obama by a 40-point margin" WHAT? Clinton is as pro-choice as Obama.

Gravatar Doc,

I am sure you are right about the bumper sticker. There is a car in my neighborhood that still has a "Catholics for Kerry" bumper sticker left over from 2004.

They're after the uninformed Catholics, and I bet they're going to get a lot of them.

Gravatar If you go to Bob Casey Jr.'s website, it's not very easy to find anything definitive about his stance on abortion. I suspect that if he is allowed to speak, he won't talk much about his position on this particular issue. And as Tony said, his voting record is more in line with NARAL. He's doing a lot of political posturing, trying to court Catholic voters...I think it's evident that he, like many other Catholics (especially on Capitol Hill) either don't realize or don't care how grave an issue abortion really is.

Gravatar Hello, people! Bob Casey has a 65% NARAL approval rating. That means the most aggressively pro-abortion organization in the country likes the way he votes on "Life" issues two out of three times. Does that sound like a pro-life stand? Does he deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as his late father? What is scary, is the ignorance among Catholics on the FACTS. Just because someone says they are "Pro-Life" does not mean they are-Casey could not have been elected without the voting base his father's integrity provided. He is a sell-out for his own political aspirations and we here in Scranton who are pro-life will not be used again! We also have a "Pro-life", congressman who has a 100% NARAL rating, CHRIS CARNEY. He uses the term to get votes and it work, once. We'll see this time.
