If you liked Priestblock, take a look at "In the Shadow of His Wings" - it's the story of Fr. Gereon Goldmann, a seminarian who is drafted into Hitler's SS. I think it also shows up with Priestblock under "If you liked this, then you might like this" in Amazon.

My Father was in Dachau in the barracks kiddie corner to the priests. His own priest was arrested and Dad ran into him just before Dad was transferred towards the end of the war. Ironically he was to go onthe Cap Arcona but instead was sent to
The book is amazing and my Father says that it is a must read for those who want to experience what they all had lived through..
Here is also a very good article to read..

FWIW, Fr. Bernard was the real-life priest whose diaries provided the inspiration for the fictional story of the remarkable film The Ninth Day (my interview with the director).
Coincidentally, Fr. Bernard was also the head of OCIC, an international Catholic organization of cinema professionals, at the time of his imprisonment by the Nazis.

Will have to read this, sounds wonderful. Also I recommend "With God in Russia" by Fr. Walter Ciszek, S.J. I couldn't put that book down once I started it. I believe they are looking into Fr. ciszek's cause for beatification.

Without reading the book, I cannot possibly imagine how they could have been treated worse than other prisoners - were their babies torn from their arms and smashed against walls by Nazi soldiers? Were they herded into shower/gas chambers and killed and their bodies burned in crematoria? Were they separated from their spouses or children at train stations or forced to watch them herded away probably never to see them again? I'm sure they suffered horribly but let's not make sufferng a competition ... Read Night by Elie Wiesel (sP?), maybe you just haven't read widely enough about the suffering in the concentration camps or the ghettos. Read and be thankful for the Lord's mercy ...

I'm certainly not trying to make it a competition, and, well, read the book.
