Gravatar Seems all or most of these Catholic Colleges are Jesuit, why is the Pope not calling in the Superior General of the jesuits and demanding the removal of these College presidents. if the Staff walks out good shut down the colleges and then send the Jesuits to evangelize in the Middle East!!!!

Gravatar If it's such an "intelligent discussion" about abortion and its alternatives, such a valuable conversation to be had, why is Fr. McFarland going so far to distance himself, his faculty/staff, and his students from the conference now?

According to the website, he feels that it is important to discuss ways to reach the demographic of at-risk teenagers...and yet he disagrees with what the conference participants would propose for that very demographic...and he's not announcing any plans for a talk/panel/conference like the one the Cardinal Newman Society is planning.

If he really cared about the demographic of at-risk teenagers more than his contractual obligations, in my opinion he should cancel the PP conference and offer his college as a site for Dawn Eden and crew.

Gravatar As an alumnus of HC, I say "God bless Bishop McManus!"

I agree with Fr. McFarland that there is a distinction between an event planned ans sponsored by the College and an event sponsored by an outside group who are renting the College's facilities . . . but the College still has an obligation not to allow its facilities to be used for purposes that are repugnant.

Would they allow space in the Campus Center to be used by racists? Oh, wait, if Planned Parenthood is involved, I guess they would welcome racists (Planned Parenthood has a dark history of involvement in eugenics).

I cannot imagine such equivocation by Fr. Brian Shanley, O.P., the President of Providence College . . . (unfortunately, my Jesuit Crusaders lose in yet another contest against my son's Friars!)

Gravatar The school's President has responded, but only one responsible is acceptable.

Banning the celebration of Sacraments on campus ought to get people's attention, without revoking the school's Catholicity (what's that called again? Placing a location under _____?")
