Gravatar Lourdes and Sharia. What won't he accept?

Gravatar While it may be gratifying that the archbishop accepts Lourdes, I am not fully impressed.

After all, this is the same cleric who has knelt before Sharia law, like the rest of the PC, Multikulti crowd.

He has little credibility in my eyes as he has abdicated what moral authority he possessed.

Gravatar Let's pray that if he is open to this teaching of the Church, he will be open to conversion.

"He was invited to the shrine by Jacques Perrier, the Catholic Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes.

Dr Williams was joined there by the German Cardinal Walter Kasper, the president of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, who celebrated the international Mass."

Oh, boy.

"He was also joined by an unprecedented pilgrimage of 10 Church of England bishops, some 60 Anglican priests and about 400 Anglican lay worshippers, a number of whom are considering becoming Catholics in protest at the decision of the General Synod in July to pave the way for the creation of women bishops."

Is this the TAC? Or another group of Anglicans?

Gravatar Has anyone noticed that his eyebrows are getting more and more Gandalf-esque by the day? In any event, I have trouble coming to grips with this because it does not line up with his prior statements concerning the prospects of allowing Sharia Law to filter into British Common Law, which, as far as I can tell, is both an act of treason and an act of heresy for the Archbishop of Canterbury. Is this a reversal of opinion, a correction of previous missteps, a leap into the pluralistic abyss or what? I haven't a clue.

Gravatar Anglicans don't consider themselves to be Protestants. They believe that they are Catholics and to top it off, the "real" Catholics. Protestants would naturally have a problem with Lourdes, but Anglicans would not.

Besides that, Dr. Williams is a Universalist - he sees no conflict between the worship of anything and everything. I'm sure he thinks that there is some dielectic approach to resolving Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, and idol worship.

That he is going to Lourdes is not a big deal. Moreover, he has no authority in the Anglican "church" so anything he says on it is a non-issue.

Gravatar A question: Aren't Anglican orders not valid? It says in the article that Dr. Williams gave the homily at this international Mass presided over by Card. Kasper.

Gravatar You are correct; Anglican orders aren't valid. Dr. Williams should not have been invited to speak during the time of the homily, and it is not possible for him to give a homily in any case.

Gravatar Unless a leader has a 100%percent conversion to Christ and teaches the orthodoxy of Christ's truth, these kinds of shows and statements of men can do more harm to the spiritually immature and new spiritual truth seekers.Breeding only confusion. These kinds of religious leaders are dangerous, in my opinion because they lead people/souls astray. St.Augustine today in the office of readings on not following bad shepherds.http://www.universalis.com/20080924/ readings.htm And we have plenty already in THE CHURCH.[R.C.]

Gravatar Hello again,

although not for long inevitably.

Are Anglican Orders valid? No

Are Paul VI orders valid? No

Why did Pope Pius XII define valid rites of ordination I wonder?

Why were they changed a few years later?

Gravatar This ought to be interesting.

Gravatar "I haven't a clue." Well either does he. Politics as usual.

Gravatar Yeah, Archdruid Williams "i advocate wife and child beatings".

Gravatar Okay, fine, I hope Dr. Williams converts. In the meantime, I have real trouble taking anything he says seriously, even if I happen to agree with it.

Gravatar Maybe this is just a case of the broken clock being right twice in a day.

Sharia Law? Sure, why not?

Marian Apparition at Lourdes? Whatever floats your boat!

Gravatar I agree with atheling--there is no standard by which Anglicans are held to in terms of belief so why shouldn't Williams go to Lourdes? I personally think it is a ploy to keep the tottering Anglicans who are leaning towards Rome within Anglicanism--which means its a bigger problem than even we suspect.
Anglicanism is certainly different from all the other forms of Protestantism--which other "Protestant" ecclesial community has a shrine dedicated to the BVM (ie Walsingham)? But then again, aren't all the Protestant communities different from each other anyway?
In the end, it is important to remember that the Anglican Communion is not structured like the Catholic Church so the Archbishop of Canterbury visiting Lourdes is not like the Pope visiting the burial place of Thomas Cranmer or some other famous Protestant. While this might be important for the English--most Episcopalians in the USA probably won't even know (or care) he went to France.

Gravatar Any news on if Rowan Atkinson joined him in Lourdes? Mr. Bean and Gandolf...that would be a stellar Brittish contingent visiting Our Lady of Lourdes.

Gravatar I think he is just trying to ingratiate himself with as many people as possible before he gets chased out of office. The Anglican church is in tatters, he believes Sharia is fine, women priests and bishops, gay priests and bishops, dogs and cats living together . . . ok, maybe not the latter, but he seems willing to accept anything. As head of a church that isn't quite in line with his responsibility. Maybe it is like the servant who reduces all of the debts to his lord's debtors before he is cast out so that he will receive a warm welcome from SOMEONE after he is chased out of office.

Gravatar Too bad he doesn't accept the Bible. Tom

Gravatar This simply confirms the growing Anglican crisis. It reflects a growing minority of Anglican Bishops in the US and abroad seeking tradition over conformity. Here in Texas, four priests (and I believe their Anglican Bishop) in the Fort Worth area have been in consultation with the Diocese of Fort Worth on normalizing relations with Rome. We may be seeing the early signs of the collapse of the Anglican curch. I have Anglican friends and they simply see themselves as "having an argument with the Bishop in Rome". It will be interesting to watch. We already have an "Anglican Rite" church here in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. "If you build it they will come." The road is already built. Great Britain is already on the road to dissociation with the Anglican church. See the article posted on New Advent.

Gravatar Would you stay in a religion whose principal leader looks like a cross between a tenured professor who has stayed too long and the man yelling wildly on the downtown street corner?

Gravatar If he comes to the US to site see at Alcatrazz Island, don't be standing on the Golden Gate bridge...

Gravatar On second thought, you were saying Mr. Potter?

Gravatar Kozaburo, Dr. Peters, and Eric,

Thanks for clearing that up.

Gravatar Mary brings people together.

Gravatar But Jesus separates the goats from the sheep on judgement day. Jesus is the only judge. And He Knows who are His real friends and who are just playing or masquerading.

Gravatar He also believes in gay partnerships.
