Don't expect the TLM to suddenly come back as the norm. Pope Benedict is fully implementing Vatican II, not reversing it.

True, but at least one mass per month should be said at every parish. Or at least during Major Feast Days. It is not enough to have authorization to say it. The mass must be promoted. How many new priests have no knowledge of Latin? I was shocked to find out it is not taught at the seminary here.

"Don't expect the TLM to suddenly come back as the norm. Pope Benedict is fully implementing Vatican II, not reversing it."
This assumes that what has happened to the Roman Rite was mandated by the Second Vatican Council. It clearly was not.
Obviously the TLM isn't going to be suddenly returned as the norm. The Holy Father has repeatedly said that such a sudden change is unhealthy, as it was in 1970.
That being said, his fully implementing the Second Vatican Council has nothing to do with the Novus Ordo.
Once more: the Mass of the Council is the TLM. The Council didn't call for the changes the Church saw.

We just got a new pastor at our parish (in Orange County California). He is from a neighboring parish in Orange County. Suddenly, though, the "Holy Holy Holy" is the "Sanctus Sanctus Sanctus". And the Eucharistic prayer is more formal. And the acolytes are doing things a little sharper. Does this have anything to do with Pope Benny's shake-up? I have no idea. But I like it.

No, it does not. I am saying that Pope Benedict is implementing the Council as it was meant to be.
I was not aware that the Novus Ordo had no connection to VII.

Hopefully the Lions will have a similar approach with scouts and other employees now that Millen has been released from his duties.

"No, it does not. I am saying that Pope Benedict is implementing the Council as it was meant to be."
That's not what you said. You implied that the return of the TLM would be a "reversal" of the Council when in fact the TLM was the Mass of the Council.
"I was not aware that the Novus Ordo had no connection to VII."
Really? Show me where the Council called for a new form of the Roman Rite. The Novus Ordo wasn't called for by anything but the loosest interpretation of "The Spirit of the Council." And such an interpretation just doesn't fly.
None of this has any bearing on validity or any such schismatic nonsense, but you can't use Vatican II as justification.

I think you're reading into this too much. Nothing is going to change, it's only wishful thinking on your part. Sorry.

Few expect changes overnight, but the fact is there is lots of evidence of a thaw.

"You implied that the return of the TLM would be a "reversal" of the Council when in fact the TLM was the Mass of the Council."
Thomas, I implied that the Mass of Paul VI is the rite which the Church usually uses. I'll concede that I am ignorant as to whether the Council chose to implement the Pauline rite as the rite normally used. Correct me if I'm wrong.
When I said 'I was not aware,' I meant that I was not aware. I was not refuting your statement.
I am not opposed to the use of TL rite. More power to it. I was just saying 'slow down and no one will be disappointed if Pope Benedict doesn't fulfill our dreams just as we would wish.' There is no antagonism meant on my part.

Sean,
Where in OC? I attend St Columban in Garden Grove. Our parish has a loooooong way to go, but I have seen subtle changes to a more formal liturgy.
I am a bit surprised given that our Ordinary is +Tod D Brown.
