You make a good point: dying at Mass is no sure way to Heaven; what matters is the state of one's soul, not the location of one's body.
BTW, RodD's thoughts on religion are of very minimal interest, well, to me anyway, these days. He's got bigger issues to work out himself, than to be opining away for the rest of us.

"Come on God, Why?" Is something I've asked in circumstances far more trivial than an earthquake. But the answer is, of course, always the same, regardless of circumstances. It's one of those simple realities that aren't so simple for us as Catholics.
Will be praying for the repose of all souls of those who died in the earthquake.
