Now just why might an atheist want to work for the church? I've never met one who would bother. On the other hand there are lots of gays, closeted or not in various degrees, who are employed by the church. Such men are also in Holy Orders together with many men and women who are members of canonical religious communities. Their presence within the church rises to the level of notoriety, my friend.

All that being the case, it would seem and was in fact found that Mr. Rainey was singled out for "special treatment" because he was gay like so many others in church employ. Bring on any professed atheists in the same ecclesiastical empoyment situation and you may have a point.

Gravatar So, what happens if the gay youth minister abused/molested children? Would it be the fault of the state, or of the diocese?
