According to Wikipedia, in 2009 Ash Wednesday will be on Feb. 25, not Feb. 9.

I think you have a little typo in your post. Wikipedia says that next year (2009) Ash Wednesday will Feb 25th, not Feb 9th.

This actually caused my husband and me great consternation--we're expecting our first baby in the next couple of weeks, and were originally told by our parish that we couldn't have him/her baptized during Lent. Which meant we'd be waiting at least a couple of months to baptize, instead of being able to do it as soon as possible. Thank God for a responsive pastor, who got this straightened out within 24 hours of my writing to him.

The last two times Easter was on March 23rd (as it is this year) were 1913 and 1856. 1856 was a leap year, like this year is, but 1913 was not, and since leap day (Feb 29) falls in Lent, Lent started a day earlier, on the 5th of February, in 1913.
So I think your post should be titled "...earliest...since 1913" for the sake of accuracy. I'm not sure where the site you linked to had its source, but I've looked at these pages: http://www.maa.mhn.de/StarDate/

And isn't Mardi Gras also "Super Tuesday?"
Dunno what that means, but it seemed to fit in this thread.

Ben Bloomfield is correct of course. In 1913, Ash Wednesday was on 5 February, as all sources (and a calculation with the formula) will tell you.
Kate B.: It's unbelievable. I fear, at the heart lies a lessened (to say the least) sense for the necessity of Holy Baptism. It was not that long ago that children were baptised at the very latest one or two days after being born. The Holy Father was, as was standard, baptised on the day he was born. Then, people still were actually anxious for their children not to die without being baptised. They really believed in original sin. But the teaching of the Church has not changed - how could it. It is still absolutely necessary to have one's child baptised as early as possible, and priests actually refusing to do so are gravely remiss. And the idea that there should be no Baptism in Lent is just ludicrous. So, there should be no grace in Lent? What is wrong with these people. This really makes me angry, which of course I shuoldn't be, but it is hard. On the contrary, Lent is all about bringing the spiritually dead back to life through penance - for the baptised, through Confession, for the unbaptised, through Baptism.

Brassband: "Mardi Gras" translates from French to "Fat Tuesday", if you'd like to know--the day on which you have to use up all your fat, sugar, and cream, since you can't eat it during lent! (Lent used to be much more of a sacrifice for everyone involved, you see.)
"Carnivale", in case you are interested, comes from Latin "carne" = "meat" and "vale" = "goodbye"--pretty much the same thing. Carnival is celebrated much more in Europe, and can lasts from Christmas until the day before Ash Wednesday or even from 11/11 at 11:11, as "The Bad Catholic's Guide to Good Living" will tell you!

Actually, liturgically the Christmas season goes through the Baptism of Our Lord, this Sunday. It's kind of a myth that the Christmas season ends at Epiphany.

Berolinensis--
That's exactly the kind of "logic" we encountered when we started pressing for baptism ASAP (which will, in this case be a few weeks after the birth, but it was the earliest we could swing). Liturgists left, right, and center told us in so many words that it's okay to delay baptism now "because the Church doesn't believe in Limbo anymore." Also, "if anything happens, you can baptize the baby yourselves." Of course, if baptism is no longer necessary for infants, then emergency pabtism by laypeople can no longer be justified, but that's another story.
Long and short of it, our prish priest (who is new to the parish and starting to make some corrections) got it sorted out for us. And we managed to find out his favorite kind of cigar for a Christmas present.

That is not correct. Ash Wednesday this year is 6 February. In 1913, it was 5 February. The earliest possible date for Ash Wednesday, 4 February, last occurred in 1818.

Traditionally, the Christmas season comes to an end on the Feast of the Purification of Mary or the Feast of the Presentation. There are two different places in the commentary of my 1962 German missal which state this. And lo and behold in Rome, according to the VIS, the Creche in St. Peter's square stays up until...Feb. 2, the Feast of the Presentation!
We always keep our Christmas tree and all the decorations up until then. We cut it a couple of days before Christmas Day. The tree is actually growing little green sprouts! It is really nice to contemplate the Incarnation for a good long time like that, and then we are thoroughly filled up with feasting and ready to start fasting and abstaining. The Church is so wise, but I don't know why everyone does not follow the Roman example.

we don't think it is reasonable to spend hundreds thousands dollars to buy a decorating watch. you can use those money to invest in other industry which will return you good profit.
here you just need to spend 100-200 dollars to buy a replica rolex watches.
U-Boat replica watches are made by the rating 1:1 according to the original watches, and you can't distinguish the original and the fake watches when you look at the surface of the watches.
