I remember watching that Halloween one and not laughing when it was actually on, things have not changed. Though the Palin bits were great. I laughed more during them then I have during most of SNL recently.
I was actually irritated with it, most especially the opener when Baldwin woudn't even look at her. At least when Gore and Bush were running, the were swipes at both candidates, but this year, it is so skewed is sickening.
Perhaps it's just me, but none of it made me laugh because I felt they were trying to make a buffoon out of here, even here.
Actually, I thought they were trying halfheartedly, for show. Because actually they found her interesting and full of good possibilities for material. They've even got Tina Fey under contract. So if Obama wins, they've spent money on Tina that they won't be getting back. If McCain/Palin wins, they have at least four years' worth of stuff to mine. From a business standpoint, they want her to win -- you betcha.
Finally, they are comedians and they can't help finding funny things funny. Deep in their heart of art, they long to make the jokes they're not allowed to make. So you'll notice that the Palin Rap is full of comments they have probably been holding back -- most notably, the Obama/Ayers callback, but also with other stuff.
I half expected Obama to at least say that he dressed as himself because he's the best that is, or the next messiah has no need to hide behind a mask. He didn't even try to be funny.
Baldwin "didn't look at her" because he was reading the cue card.
I liked the opening, but the Weekend Update was just dumb and kind of offensive. Oh, and embarrassing.
I love how SNL always has livestock and strange costumed people back stage in those type of skits.
You know, like guys wearing huge Poncho Villa sombreros juggling bowling pins on unicycles even though they are nowhere in the show's script otherwise.
The lama in the background is hilarious.
In a word? Boooooooooring.
Wow - that Obama video was beyond lame!!! "I have nothing to hide" Gag me with a spoon!!! I laughed out loud at the firt Palin clip when Fey said "Now I'm gonna entertain you all with some pageant walking"
Yeah... she wasn't funny at all. Her being used a prop for the skit at the end was quite symbolic of her place on the Republican ticket.
