This is, well, certainly different. Although, I've heard His Holiness is quite the cat person (wasn't it here where I saw stories about him slipping out of his old episcopal residence to feed stray cats?), so this isn't the most unusual angle for this admittedly unusual undertaking.
Actually, "Chico" is the name of the cat belonging to the Hofbauer's, the neighbor couple who take care of the Holy Father's home in Pentling. In his Regensberg days, Chico would run across the street to the Ratzinger home and nestle up with Prof Ratzinger. Yes, he does love cats and was often the object of their affection when he walked through the Vatican Gardens. It seems they followed him in droves and he talked and played with them, cat-wise, of course.
