ACORN is the tip of the iceberg. Besides "Faithful Citizenship," CCHD is the other way USCCBureaucrats helped Obama win.

I was able to watch the discussion on this part of the session and was very pleased by the three questions raised by Bruskewitz (where is the money collected going - to Catholic charities or not?), Bishop Naumann (it was known in our diocese for at least 10 years that ACORN was partisan), and Bishop Boyea (do we give money to organizations that promote marriage and family?)
Perhaps I went a little deeper on my notes in my post pertaining to the discussion around ACORN.

I'm puzzled as to why the video is not up for the Tuesday sessions. The note says it is being archived and will be up shorty.
What is there to just putting it up? Are they editing the thing?

ACORN was busted, how many other organizations that haven't been caught out does CCHD support?

The question is: Is this cut off permanent or just for the near future. It seems to me that Bishop Morin has left the door open just a crack.

I'll be giving my second collection donation to the Knights of Columbus Culture of Life Fund rather than the CCHD in a few weeks.

Now if they just turned the axe to the USCCB pro-Obama bureaucracy... Let's face it, the only group more in the tank for Obama than the MSM is the bureaucracy at the USCCB.

You do know these fraudulent registrations had names like Mickey Mouse, dead people, etc., right? The registrations didn't effect the outcome of the election, because Mickey Mouse can't vote. This happens because ACORN gives incentives to its employees to register lots of voters, thus creating an incentive for employees to cheat for a higher paycheck. This will happen with any organization which provides incentives to register voters. The mission of ACORN isn't something evil, it's actually patriotic -- ACORN's mission is to create citizen participation.
Do you know who caught ACORN? ACORN caught ACORN. Why? Because the management sifts through voter registration forms before they send them to election boards. The blame on ACORN was completely political.
Had ACORN decided not to make public the fraudulent registrations, no one would have ever found out because Mickey Mouse can't vote.

Several years ago the National Catholic Register
ran an article about the CCHD and that it had been
discovered giving large grants to the United Way.
The United Way is, in turn, a major funder for many
smaller charities -- all of whom must toe the line
with the UW's policies regarding "reproductive
rights" and sexual orientation, contraception, etc..
Of course, these are not policies in line with the
Church's teaching. For example, the UW is a major
source of funds for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The
UW forced BBBS to reverse their policy of screening
out homosexuals who ask to mentor at-risk youth.
I cannot imagine Planned Parenthood turning
over one cent to an organization that in turn funds
pro-life groups. The folks at Planned Parenthood
may not have much of a moral compass, but at
least they are clear on who they are and what they
stand for -- more so than some decision-makers
at the USCCB.

To Clinton: If the UW is a questionable organization to give money to, then what does that say about Catholic Charities, as it's a member of United Way at least in my part of the country.

Ben, that's my point. I think the USCCB would do
well to re-evaluate their criteria for deciding who
gets a slice of the CCHD pie. Some close questioning of the people who made those calls
is also in order. This ACORN flap is just a part of
the problem.

Fr. Richard Neuhaus has an article on the bishops
and CHD at the First Things blog. Fr. Z posted it
at WDTPRS. I recommend it.

I wrote a letter to Bishop Loverde of Arlington asking him to suspend the CCHD second collection this year.
Received a letter back, which means they at least acknowledged it. Write your bishop! It helps.
If anyone wants to see my letter, just email me. It's good good stats inside.
