The good Polish Pope always struck me as sticking to the basics, esp in regard to his person.

Given its ancient provenance and non-excessive nature, the fanon should be considered for continued use by the Pope. The other items shown on the NLM link, regardless of their age, seem excessively regal and as such, thankfully passe.

after reading what all they had listed as papal atire at NLM all I could wonder was how many inches thick was the fabric worn by the pope.
Nothing like wearing layers through the Italian summer to keep a pontiff warm and toasty.

I remember reading some time ago that the nuns at the convent where he was saying Mass made both the vestments and the fanon. This was the first and last time he wore the fanon.
