With all due respect to Mr. Zeffirelli, I think people are quite happy with Benedict XVI as he is. I had the great joy of seeing him in person last May, and he radiates graciousness, gentleness and holiness. Up close, he is ineffably sweet and loving, and has a beatific aura that is immediately obvious to anyone -- a true father and shepherd to his great flock.
Anyone who hears the deafening cheers when his Popemobile enters the Piazza, or senses the electricity in the air when he arrives, will understand that he certainly doesn't need an "image overhaul". Grazie, signor Zeffirelli, but we love Il Papa the way he is. And somehow, I think that's what he would want -- to be accepted and loved for who he is, and not what an image maker makes him out to be.
Wow... that article seemed to call out Mel Gibson's film. I mean I didn't think the film was that blasphemous... but I could be wrong.

"Vell, your kinder looks healthy to Us..." Okay, so the Pope is taking a personal interest in the health of babies; that's about the only way he could upgrade his image. Baby's probably thinking, Now in the world is this guy doing? that's not Daddy! All in all, lovely picture for Christmas.

L, I second what you say about Benedict's aura. I was at general audience about a year ago and as the Holy Father passed I could feel the peace and holiness which he exudes. Just being near him for a few seconds as he went by was an amazing experience.
