I read about Clinton's 'stonewalling' of Ambassador Flynn in his book of memories of John Paul II-is that the book John Allen is referring to?
Obama better not use the same tactics with Papa Benedict...remember, German shepherds (AND Rottweilers) can bite!

The Clintons were OFFENSIVE to Catholics during their reign of error.
I remember reading that one big shot Clinton stooge (Secretary of Health?) had a fishbowl of condoms on his / her desk when a Catholic bishop came to discuss something.
Why Liberal Democrats have to be so offensive is beyond me. They'd get away with more if they were discrete. I guess they're just stupid fanatics.
I like John Allen, but NCR should be shut down. Here's my game plan:
1. Have the Bishops revoke the word "Catholic" from their masthead.
2. Send in the IRS to investigate why a non-for-profit (given their DOT ORG website) basically endorsed Obama and the Democratic platform.
3. Have the USCCB lobby all diocese to stop ordering NCR.
4. Invite John Allen and any of decent reporters they to a new Catholic media job with big bucks.
Anyone game?

My feeling is that Obama will have a very chilly relationship with the Vatican, especially if U.S. Bishops finally decided to more directly confront Democrats on the abortion issue.
He'll toss around empty compliments about charitable work and trendy 'green' initiatives but the Vatican will get nothing more.
Should he be President and 2014 and should World Youth Day come to Houston, Texas... that should make for some interesting political scenery. Of course, we might have a new pope by then!

well, the Pope has the door open -- he did send his well wishes first.
Mr. O may not be tha class act some think he is. Hopefully he shows the respect shown him.
As for the Clinton's, well you know what they say about a bad penny.

Doesn't anyone recall the Clintons publicly receiving the eucharist at a Catholic mass in South Africa? If memory serves, no explanation was ever given by the administration why this happened, when there is at least serious doubt about them fulfilling even the minimal requirements for a non-Catholic to receive the eucharist.
And I don't, for one minute, believe that BOTH Bill and Hillary "didn't know any better."
I have long felt that this was one of the Clintons' ways of thumbing their noses at Catholics.

If it was McCarrick, I'm sure he didn't mind.

I have commented on another site about this article. Frankly, I am not that much of a fan of it.
My recent thought exercise has been as follows:
1.) Abortion is the current “Holocaust”: A Holocaust on the Unborn.
2.) Obama has promised to advance this holocaust, and he is the most aggressive pro-abortion candidate to run for president.
3.) I would not want to cooperate with the SS…Likewise I do not want to cooperate with Obama. I would think that rather than cooperate with Obama, the Catholic Church should stand as a strong witness against the current Holocaust.
4.) IF the world ever has a change of heart with respect to abortion, do we want to be accused (as Pope Pius XII, albeit unjustly is accused) of “not doing enough” or “for working with” the evil side. I could not help but to think this as I saw Cardinal Egan laughing together with Obama at the Al Smith Dinner. It was not a pretty picture.
5.)Furthermore, I think that an Obama presidency actually means very tough times ahead for Catholics, especially Catholic physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and researchers. Conscience clauses will be eradicated, and many of these people may no longer be able to work in the same fashion as they currently do. Rather than extending a hand to someone who is ready to chop it off, I think that we better “gird our loins” for tough battles ahead. For all practical purposes this means that we must be extremely cautious in how we interact with radical pro-abortion politicians.
Whatever the case may be, we can never compromise our beliefs or principles…We should not try to see how well we can swim with the sharks!

Theresa- welcome to the playground. Lots of swings and sliding boards here. Come out and play with us anytime.
The Obama Administration's possible relationship with the Vatican is similar to any issue affecting Catholics: hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Given the high priority of FOCA, the bishops' campaign statements, and so on and so forth, I wouldn't expect the new President to take any phone call from the Vatican at the first ring. Contrary to his 20 years of hearing Rev. Wright's horrid sermons, Obama wants to project himself as a hipper cooler kind of President. Besides, any new boss at any job tends to zig when his employer zags. President Bush could not have had warmer relationships with both John Paul and Benedict. It will be pleasing if President-Elect Obama conducts his affairs with the Holy See at a level above, say, that for Vladimir Putin or Hugo Chavez.

Bill Clinton went to Georgetown University for undergrad.
Let's not forget that. He went to a nominally Catholic college.
That means he has to know about Catholic teachings on receiving the Eucharist.
Then again, this is Georgetown we're talking about
:p

Please stop inflating a nobody (Priest? Bishop? Abp.? Cardinal? Former Pope?), NOOOOT, a pathetic little professor unknown for 99% Roman-Catholics world wide!!!!
Please read in The Curt Jester My input:
By Guillermo Bustamante on November 5, 2008 7:44 PM
“The USCCB meets soon to discuss "practical and pastoral implications of political support for abortion." Will the scandal of Sen. Biden be addressed? Probably not…”
Unless… WE square off the USCCB.
How? Repeating: “Is not possible to serve two Lords…” We must study the defeat in Colorado of the abortion ban, BECAUSE THE USCCB INCOMPETENT CATHECHESIS, lighting this scientific fact-open-market:
WOMBS FOR RENT (Charity: call a spade, spade, JP II).
Case in point: if one of the less confused in the Gospel of Life (JP II), but obsessed in demeaning himself putting as AN EQUAL!!! debating "a don nadie" (nobody) little-professor Kmiec (why so elevated by most Catholic media???), and afraid to ruffle politicians feathers as Abp. Cheput...
Well, just focus: Cheput calls formal-direct abortion lawmakers Biden: “distinguished career in public service”, and Pelosi a: “fine public servant”, instead of cold blooded murderers...
Corolary? The real battle NOW!!! is to be expected from us, lay Roman Catholics.

I noticed that Mr. Obama didn't stop at the Vatican during his overseas trip last summer! That shows you where his head is!
