Gravatar Thomas --

There are some truly competent journalists out there who try to get the story right.

Rachel Zoll (she used to be stationed here in Providence and had a reputation for being very hard-working and persistent) gives excellent example.

In the Pelosi situation, moreover, the swiftness and clarity of the Bishops' response to the Speaker's ridiculous statement has been a story unto itself.

By making sure that the Church's true teaching on this issue was made clear, the Bishops have made it much more likely that reporters would be compelled to present a complete story in their reporting.

Is it too hopeful to believe that this experience will embolden the Bishops to speak with similar alacrity in the future?

Gravatar There is no room for relativism in this controversy. If she had said the tired old lines of "I personally think it is wrong but..." or "Separation of Church and State require..." or maybe even "The Church doesn't rule my life..." she'd have been fine in the eyes of the MSM. The problem was she was trying to rewrite the Catechism. By doing that she stepped out of the 'relativistic' world of faith in politics and into the empirical world of doctrine and dogma. Bad for her. Good for us.

Gravatar About this journalisic competency matter --

I don't know if Zoll is one of those that got it right, or one that got it wrong, but I note that the various stories on this cannot decide if Pelosi's spokesperson is a male named Brendan or a female named Brenda.

Gravatar Bender - I've noticed the same thing! I was totally under the impression that Daly was a "she" until my dad was talking about "this guy Daly" the other night.

Gravatar I wonder how many papers will find room for the story?

Gravatar Careful.

Many bloggers are avoiding quoting the AP right now to avoid legal battles and ridiculous DMCA take-down notices. Despite the astounding legal incompetency, the AP believes that you owe it money if you quote more than four words from one of their articles.
