Liberal environmentalism. Whatever happened to praying for human life or a return to piety? The Church needs a backbone injection.

Ooh! Oooh! Didja see?! "...with careful discernment of the charisms and a constant commitment to spiritual and cultural formation."
COOL!!
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal, in its authentically Catholic expressions, and the institutional Catholic Church have much to offer each other, and imho, need a great deal of reconnective work.
To be Catholic is to be filled with the Spirit and cooperating with Him, especially in the exercise of the charisms He has given each one of us.
Remember what Peter asked, when the Church was picking up speed, in Acts? "You tell me we've got more Christians; *have they received the Spirit?*" To him, becoming a believer was to receive the Holy Spirit. We don't call Pentecost "the birthday of the Church" for nothing!

What a croc. Liberal charismatic stuff is a symptom of a ruined Church. We are the remnant. We must rebuild.
Wheat and chaff.

Ryan -
Did you miss the mission intention - which is...a return to piety?
If you're not aware of how the Pope's prayer intentions work - they're chosen a year in advance by the Holy Father himself. They all point toward the culture of life, and several of them deal with it directly. Take this month's intention. It calls people to task for their actions, socially and environmentally. How is that not "praying for human life"?
We have so much to pray for. I think the Holy Father chooses his intentions well, to take us outside of ourselves so we can see the needs of the whole world. I don't think the Church needs a backbone injection. The Church shows she has a backbone by telling people things they don't necessarily want to hear.

Rellis,
To clarify, I'm not referring to any "liberal charismatic stuff."
There are many authentically Catholic renewal movements afoot in the Church, and some of them involve a greater awareness of the charisms baptized persons received at their Baptism.
Don't believe me? Ask God. :)

I don't see anything wrong with these intentions.
Sometimes, people find controversy where it isn't. :-(
