Gravatar While you noted this is an unofficial response, it is a response made by a very deliberate Archbishop who is not prone to rashness. Though it is presumption, I would wager that he was fully aware that he was engaging this conversation in a public medium- compared to his deliberate response to questions after Pope Benedict's visit in April

Gravatar yes, I've edited out the distinction because people can note it themselves without my pointing it out.

Gravatar Great come back! It has to be boiled down to the 4th grade level for Nancy to grasp the argument.

Abortion: the intentional killing of the embryo/fetus/bady has ALWAYS been considered evil.

Philosophical theories of ensoulment in the 300's and 1200's never affected the moral teaching on abortion.

Science proves the embryo is human from conception; you can't be a human being and not a person. Rights don't come from location, they come from nature.

This just goes to show us all the more clearly why elections matter, why decent INTELLIGENT people need to go into politics and stay engaged.... with a nation the size of ours there's no good reason why our "representatives" have to be this dense, this morally obtuse, and this arrogant.

Gravatar Besides being painfully ignorant of Catholic teaching on human life and evil of abortion Nancy Pelosi clearly also rejects the more fundamental doctrine of apostolic succession and authority of the Magisterium. I or any of us might get a doctrine of faith wrong but when a host of prominent Bishops take one to task it says something about ego to come back with an argument including one's favorite footnotes. This is sad for a Catholic. When that Catholic hold such a position of power in American Government; third in line for the Presidency - such ignorance, arrogance and willfullness is downright tragic.
