His ordination was featured in a National Geographic documentary entitled "Inside the Vatican". It's available online:

I am confused about the Great Falls appointment. There seems to be shuch a hesitancy to ordain a NEW bishop. Why fill a vacancy to create another? I can see it for a big diocese but for Great Falls? Find a worthy priest and make him bishop there. If Bishop Michael Warfel deserves a promotion he should get something bigger like Green Bay or something. Give him a major step up or leave him where he is.

Randy you are so right. Going from anywhere in Alaska to Montana is not really a promotion. Give him a bigger diocese or leave him where he is at.

I'd rather we return to the tradition of a bishop serving his diocese and not moving him around with various "promotions." Remember, a bishop does wear a wedding ring to show his spousal commitment to his Local Church.

No, you guys miss the point.
It's like moving Carlson from South Dakota to Saginaw.
It's sending someone in to clean up a mess.
The mess in Montana is not quite as big. But it's still a mess.
Warfel is a good man and did well in Juneau, which was also a mess, but very, very TINY.
So tiny that almost anything is a step up.
