Gravatar I suspect that Rocco's posting, as always, has a hidden clue. Particularly the way he writes that "Earl-y word says they're keeping it in the province."

That would seem to indicate Bishop Earl Boyea, auxiliary of Detroit and titular bishop of Siccenna

Gravatar Wow!! I was a Lansing Seminarian the last two years, and the rumors about who would be the next bishop/when he would be appointed seemed to circulate weekly. I'm glad that Bishop Carl will be able to step down, the last time I saw him he looked like a man at the end of a marathon.

Gravatar I converted in the Lansing diocese under Bp Mengeling. Thanks for the heads up!

Gravatar Bishop Boyea is a fine man. He has been very attentive to the "1962 Missal" group in the archdiocese of Detroit and has come to St. Josaphat's as a celebrant on a regular basis. He has strong academic credentials and seems to embody a lot of the "positive orthodoxy" that Pope Benedict has spoken of.

On the other hand, I'd love to see him stay here as auxiliary in Detroit for another 20 years or so....

Gravatar That's right, Tim, just keep hogging all the good auxiliaries for Detroit...oh wait, I work in Detroit. Never mind.

Gravatar I wonder when the Kalamazoo diocese will decide...

Gravatar The Seminarians studying for Lansing are anxiously awaiting!!

Gravatar Mengeling brushed off pro-lifers when they complained about Gov. Sabelius (pro-abortion Catholic) having a big bash with Mass at a Catholic church to celebrate her inauguration. I hope the new bishop is an improvement in that regard.

Gravatar Father, do you have the right governor in mind? Governor Sebelius runs my home state of Kansas while Jennifer Granholm leads Michigan.

Gravatar It's official, and it's Boyea.
