IRONICALLY, no newspaper would ever dare depict the Supremes as Jewish Rabbis nor as Muslim Imams, yet they can get away with the Catholic Bishop look (vis-a-vis the miter) and with impugnity. I'd rather see halos over those who are pro-life and horns on those who support abortion.

This isn't a good papist cartoon. On the contrary, it's as anti-Catholic as anything that POS Thomas Nast did in the late 1800's, and with far less talent, if I may say. For proof, see Nast's "the American River Ganges." It's the same thing.

Anon. I think you missed my point. The term "papist" means someone who unquestioningly follows the Papacy (and here the implication is that such a choice is also stupid).
Thus, the cartoon is accusing the Catholics on the SC as being "papists", in the deragatory sense.
My position, evident in the title of this blog and frequently restated in various posts, is that it is NOT a bad thing to be a Papist - to follow the teachings of Rome in an intimate way that effects your daily actions.
So, yes, it's a good papist cartoon, because the SC members voted with the conviction of their reason which was enlightened by their faith.
I hope this helps, as much as a quickly-composed, off-the-cuff response could.

I hope Bill Donahue & Co. step on Philip Auth's neck (rhetorically speaking) and call him out for what we know he is: a strident anti-Catholic.
