I do not think you should put "not your average Catholic" on the shirt. It has always struck me as being a little pretentious.

I disagree. I never understood the phrase "not your average . . . " to mean above average or better than average. It just means you stand out in some way: not necessarily for better or worse (although those are possibilities) but simply different.
