Hmmm...looks like Pelosi is quickly seeing folks call her out. I guess I should hope for a genuine conversion instead of walking into even more issues face first... i guess the good Lord's business is miracles and all.

Gravatar Not that I expected any differently but I decided to check what political party the undersigned on that letter belonged to and it was a 10 for 10 republican which amused me. Good for them for calling her out!

Gravatar I'm proud to see that some Catholic politicians are actually true to their faith and are willing to defend it.

Gravatar Mary - silence by dems on this issue is destructive for them b/c silence will be taken to mean they agree with pelosi's twisted logic.

Gravatar Not having seen Mary's comment, I did the same check (with, of course, the same result). I guess I'm saddened, although not awfully surprised; I'd hope that the guts to stand up for the Faith would be a bipartisan quality, even in Congress. There's no shortage of Catholics on either side of the aisle, but we're only hearing from the Republicans (for whom standing up to Pelosi is a political plus), not from the Democrats (who have more to lose politically).

I'd gain a lot of respect for a Democrat who chimed in and corrected Pelosi out about now. Not that I'm holding my breath...

Peace,
--Peter

Gravatar Good for them! Where ARE the democrats??

Gravatar Democrats = Non-Catholic. Sorry but the minimum wage, social justice crap is meaningless when you kill babies. And these left-wing loons have the temerity to refer to President Bush as BushHitler. Talk about classic projection. The Dems are the closet thing to Hitler that exists. Der Fuhrer would be proud of them. Tom

Gravatar As an aside, I noted with interest that they called JPII "Pope John Paul the Great". I wonder if the choice was incidental or intentional. If nothing else, it serves as a reminder you're not going to be hearing people say "Nancy the Great" any time soon.

Gravatar I would like to encourage folks that if they are part of their constituency that you contact them and thank them for their stand. It could have been political suicide to come on so strong, but we need to thank them for standing strong and encourage them to keep doing so.

Gravatar It's a relief -- and exciting! -- to know that our Catholic bishops are finally stepping up to teach and correct wrong thinking. Archbishop Chaput has led the way!

As to the political "lines" along with pro-life issues are drawn: it is we who slice that pie. We need to pray that Speaker Pelosi and other pro-abortion politicians take heed; and that people of faith in all parties will step up to defend life at every stage.

Gravatar There are such things as pro-life Democrats, but I've heard that the party heirarchy makes it very difficult for them to proclaim that. But, ideally, the arena of public service would render one more concerned for others over a political career. Meaning, I'd hope they had the courage to identify themselves as pro-life.

As it is, it looks more like they are following party lines.

Gravatar The most interesting aspect of this letter is that it was not signed by the "usual suspects", i.e. Chris Smith, Sam Brownback, etc. Most outside of Washington, and some in Washington, couldn't tell you who most of the signers are.
As a side note, Virginia Foxx is a rising star. She is a former University president and professor. She has been rated one of the most conservative members of Congress and she is a great champion of the unborn. I am biased though since she is endorsed by my organization, the Susan B. Anthony List.

Gravatar I only looked at the bio of Phil Gingrey, as he is from my state, Georgia. He is also an OB/GYN.

Best,
Mr. Parx
