No reason given for why the priest stabbed him other than he was "crazed"? If he was crazed, why just a prison sentence (and not some mental health facility), and deportation?
And deported to where?
Very odd story.

I didn't know until a few months ago that there had also been an assassination attempt on Pope Paul VI, which was captured on TV and came very close to succeeding.

So what do you interpret 'ultra-conservative' to mean? SSPX? or is there some other group that distinguishes one as an ultra conservative?

According to Wikipedia he was expelled from the SSPX less than a year from when he joined (this was three years before his assassination attempt). Also according to the evidence on Wikipedia he's what we might colloquially call crazy - I'll leave a specific diagnosis to the experts. Makes you wonder how a guy like this got into seminary, let alone made it through to ordination.
