Gravatar Why, might I ask, would we want Muslims mucking about in the midst of a large Catholic celebration? For that matter, why would the Muslims want to facilitate such things? And I'm sorry, but a promise "not to try and convert" someone doesn't sound like a promise the Church is empowered to make -- something about "preach the Gospel to all nations." Catholic culture has endured for two millenia without the help of infidels; I don't see why we think we need it now.

Gravatar yeah, I guess I tried to pack all those reservations into the little phrase "under the proper circumstances." I still think it's a good thing to have young Muslims hearing the Pope speak. Besides that, I think we're in agreement.

Gravatar I went to a Muslim-Catholic discussion event at the Toronto World Youth Day. I think it worked out well. Mind you, Muslims tried to market their faith to us during that event and to think that nobody's going to attempt to show the beauty in what they believe in is just a tad naive. Just as there's no forcible proselytizing (and why would that be happening in Sydney) then I'm sure this is not a concern in WYD 2008.

Gravatar Yeah right, don't try to convert muslims! Hahahaha!

No thanks. I will obey Jesus and try to convert all muslims, Jews, protestants, lost Catholics, atheists, wiccas, and all who are not in the fullness of Christ's One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

That's great that muslims and other people of false religions will be gathered at WYD, I will make that my apostolate to try and convert as many as the Holy Spirit brings my way. Of course, always with love and charity.

God bless.

Gravatar Oh, I almost forgot that many are also praying for the conversion of Guy Sebastian to the fullness of the Truth. Hopefully, I will have an opportunity, God willing, to speak and witness our Catholic charity to him as well.

Our Lord has a way of turning irrational decisions of people into something for the good of His Kingdom.

God bless.

Gravatar Muslims at WYD? Yikes! What a bad idea. Oh, give me pro-gay-marriage Guy Sebastian any day - at least he worships the true God.

Gravatar ...and with the promise to not try to convert them, too. That's what most gets to me.

Gravatar What need is there to use Muslim mosques and madrassas? In Australia to they do not have enough facilities for the youth gathered? The promise not to try to convert? That is heretical.

World Youth Day appears to be turning from a Catholic festival to a pagan festival of youth where solid Church teaching are secondary to the shallow celebration of youth and celebrity.

Gravatar I don't like the idea of Moslems at WYD-isn't this supposed to be for CATHOLIC youth?
