Let's have a contest to see who can be the silentest the longest. Archbishop Niederauer on Pelosi or my Archbishop Hanus on Planned Parenthood opening an clinic in DBQ.

I especially find this sad given that the archbishop was one of Pope Benedict's first major US appointments.
And who is Biden's bishop?

She just threw down the gauntlet for Niederauer. I think he must respond and correct ms. Pelosi now, in order to prevent scandal, for her spiritual well being, and to show the unity of the bishops on this important point.

Hold it guys. Where does it say that every bishop must respond to every false claim made by every politician? Geeze louise, think of the numbers involved. And, if it doesn't say that anywhere (and I don't think it does) why pick on N? Is there something ecclesiastically unique about MSP, as opposed to say, Memphis, or Orange County, or El Paso?

why pick on N? Because he is Pelosi's local ordinary...

Ed Peters, If Neideraurer won't take Pelosi on publicly on this issue, then he's just another amiable windsock who really should not be entrusted with a flock. His personal failure toa ct will serve to undermine the Church's teaching on this issue, because if the Church will not "speak truth to power" (favorite lefty jargon)it will be pretty hard to convince a young pregnant girl that her Church takes the matter seriously. Words without action are meaningless. Tom

Ed,
But Pelosi is not an ordinary politician. She is not the head of school board, or even a normal member of Congress. Further, her errors were not ordinary dinner table errors.
Rather, Pelosi is the Speaker of the House. She sits 3rd in line for the Presidency, and is one of the most powerful and influential individuals in US politics. She misrepresented (to say the least) Church teaching before several million individuals. She did so while claiming to have seriously studied those teachings.
Many viewers to presume that Pelosi was being honest and honestly representing Church teaching.
The level of scandal involved is staggering.

Now I AM totally embarrased. I confused Neideraurer with Neinstedt. Of course Neideraurer has a role to play here. Fire away folks, I won't even use a blindfold.

It would be nice if Cardinal Levada, Ms Pelosi's former bishop and the one who established the regional practice she has referred to, would also step in. HIS silence is also roaring loudly, since he is not only in a position to correct errors, it is his own voice (or lack thereof) speaking through Ms. Pelosi.
As to when Abp N will say anything: Anything he says now will only be lip service to the rest of the country's bolder bishops. It's too late for what he says actually to be intended for Ms Pelosi--it'll be all for show. He'll quote other people and hide behind their courage. I'd be surprised if he takes her on directly.
Here's a benefit-of-the-doubt idea, for all those who are less cynical than me: Maybe he's contacted her privately to reprimand her! What do you think?

And who is Biden's bishop?
Currently nobody. Bishop Fran Malooly (a Baltimore auxiliary) will be installed in Wilmington on Sept 8. We'll see then if he has anything to say about it (so far, nothing).

Doc Angelicus, one can hope there has been a private discussion. But public statements require public responses.

Lil Miz Nancy would make a fine Episcopal. In that Church you can believe anything and still be a member in good standing. She should convert and spare the Catholic Church any further embarrassment. Tom

Doc Angelicus, I'm hoping along the lines of your thought - that Neideraurer has contacted Pelosi to meet with her first and explain the Faith to her before making a public statement. My gut tells me that's not the case, but we can hope.

Hopefully he did, although in her case I don't think she will recant unless it's a public reprimand.
