Gravatar Has anyone heard the name of Providence Bishop Thomas Tobin mentioned for Pittsburgh?

He is a native of Pittsburgh, a former auxiliary there (1992-96), and has been Bishop of Youngstown (1996-2005), and Providence (2005-present).

As a resident of the Diocese of Providence I hope we have him here for many more years (despite the fact that he favors the Steelers over our N.E. Patriots), but he would seem to be an obvious candidate for promotion.

Gravatar Pittsburg has a bishop, Most Rev. Michael O. Jackels. Pittsburg is in Kansas and is located within the Diocese of Wichita. The See of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania, is vacant. Pittsburgh, PA had the "h" removed from its name in 1890 but it was restored in 1911. See http://www.pittsburgh.net/ about_...ittsburgh_h.cfm

Gravatar John --

As a native of Pgh (moved away at age 9) I feel your pain . . . lotsa folks drop the "h" . . . .
