I used to be a Peggy Noonan fan until I heard her off mic gaffe during the Republican convention.

It was not her use of the f*** word, it was her lame and nonsensical apology later which turned me off - it reminded me of the sophistry and rhetoric of a career politician.

Noonan is just another elite journalist of the DC and NY cocktail circuit. She has no clue what the hoi polloi are about, and her recent comments that she is "unsure" of who to vote for confirms that she is truly out of touch with middle class America.

Gravatar Does she mean storge?
Patriotism and loalty to one's county or the Church are storge.
And we do need this. Especially when it concerns our Church and the temptation to leave at the first hint of trouble.

Gravatar It is because of her complete lack of patriotic grace, and descent into the bile of Bush-hate and Palin-bashing, that I have stopped reading whatever she has to say.

Gravatar "come together and support the next President" which did not happen with the last President, which is why we find ourselves in the predicament we are in. This President has been ridiculed and badgered beyond all decency. She believe this will just end in the bond of brotherly love with the next President? Politics has not changed in over 200 years. I seriously doubt this book will cause a ground-swell in that regard.

Gravatar Kind of naive. The problem with politics is as old as time itself - there's so much money to be allocated to the winners. Cut the flow of funds to Washington and that's when you'll notice a huge change in attitude. Unfortunately we have kleptocrats in both parties. Tom

Gravatar Ouch. You guys are merciless.

Gravatar How could we come together under an Obama presidency? His would mean the end to our freedoms to speech, assembly and practicing religion.
As I was accompanying my Cub Scout selling popcorn, I realized that it could be the last season to do it, since the Boy Scouts would have to close its doors, IF Obama is elected.
So Peggy you think its bad now, just wait and see if Obama is elected how low and nasty it would get for every American.

Gravatar I enjoy reading Noonan as well. But, that book description is disturbing for a couple of reasons. The greatest seems to be a plea to stand behind and support whoever the next president is. I'm not sure that would be morally possible if our next president is on a war path to destroy the unborn and the freedom to worship publicly. We can pray for him and co-exist without being rebellious, but we can't acquiesce to immoral laws.

Also, I found this sentence interesting:

We long for leaders who can summon us to greatness and unity, as they did in the long struggles against fascism and communism.

What if our next president is a Marxist?

Gravatar Right on the money Joseph.

Gravatar I've bought every Noonan book but I won't bother with this one.

Gravatar And I'm not "coming together" to support President Obama.

Gravatar She must need money - unfortunately, she forgot who bought her books. I am free to vote who I want and support whoever the president is or will be. If the president is pro-abortion, I will never support him. Furthermore, I never understood Peggy Noonan. While I admire her work for Reagan and her kindness, I wonder if she uses her kindness and her prose to make others comfortable or to make friends. Does she have any enemies?
