I am really disappointed in the Holy Father here. There is NO SPACE for religious freedom. The Catholic church is the ONLY true religion. Allowing the practise of false cults such as protestantism, orthodoxy, judaism and islam condemns souls to eternal damnation. I hope and pray that the Holy Father will defend these truths.

Eric, if governments don't allow religious freedom, what do you think are the chances they will choose Catholicism as the state religion?
In a pluralistic society, religious freedom is the only way to ensure that Catholicism can be practiced freely. You can't force people to accept the truth.

Syllabus of errors - false statement #77:
"in the present day it is no longer expedient that the Catholic religion should be held as the only religion of the State, to the exclusion of all other forms of worship."

Tom, I agree with you entirely, error does have no rights therefore religious freedom is a scandal.

Sorry, Eric, I was being facetious. Take a look at "Dignitatis Humanae" where "error has no rights" was basically shelved. It really serves no useful purpose. Tom

I'm saddened that the Holy Father is not as strong of an advocate for the old Mass that drew him in as a young boy and made him want to be a holy priest one day.
These statements make it seem like he's only offering polite niceties to us cranky trads now.

"But, Lord, we prophesied in Your Name. We worked miracles in Your Name."
"I never knew you."
Something to keep in mind.

WRC,
I think the pope has been very pro-TLM, to the point that libs use that as one reason to hate him.

Remember, the pope has allowed the TLM, has reformed the translation of the Novus Ordo to be more accurate, etc. He's not dissing the TLM at all.

The University of Notre Dame will have it's first
Tridentine Mass with Gregorian Chant this Sunday on the Anniversary of Summorum Pontificum, Exaltation of Holy Cross.
Although the TLM is regularly scheduled every Sunday at 9 AM this will be the first Sung Mass offered at Notre Dame in the Extraordinary Form since the 60's.

But we still haven't heard this new English translation. The readings in the lectionary remain abominable. We are still waiting for this socalled reform! Meanwhile we will still have to travel an hour to go to an Extraordinary Mass. There are many things about the ordinary Mass which are quite irritating.

I find it irritating that the Catholic blogosphere isn't full of saints. Where is this so-called "reform of lives"? Where is this holiness of everyday people?
Where is this beam in my eye you say I have? I can see you've got some dust in yours, but....

I find it irritating that people level vague charges against unnamed bloggers and commentors that amount to an unhelpful generalization that comes off less as fraternal correction and more like sour grapes.
Let me add another Scripture: If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?
What specifically was said that is wrong, and most important, WHY is it wrong?
