Gravatar The RNC probably spent less than Nancy Pelosi spends on her clothes and botox. I noticed that Katie Couric copied Palin's hairstyle for the Al Smith dinner. Tom

Gravatar They're damned if they do, damned if they don't. If Sarah doesn't wear the duds that are typical of your modern Washington woman, she'll be ridiculed as a backwoods hick. Of course when her party shells out the money necessary for a new wardrobe, the same people criticize her for spending too much. Any stick is good enough.

Gravatar When's the last time anyone in the press gave a moment's thought to the price of Obama's suits or cufflinks?

Gravatar Hey, I'm sure this is stuff she couldn't afford herself (being a real middle-class person). And if she wore her usual stuff, the press would tear her apart. I've price-checked good clothing, and a total of $150,000 to clothe and accessorize her AND her family is not that much. Any sort of clothing above the level of Macy's is crazy expensive. I don't mind them using my money this way. And little Trig deserves the best!

Gravatar Let's not forget that Obama has also purchased his very own Obama channel on the Dish Network Satelite subscription.

Gravatar Plus, once it's all over, just think how much some of this stuff could fetch on Ebay. With the profits naturally directed to the appropriate pro-life or special needs charity :)

Gravatar Yeah, Michelle Obama always seems dressed to the nines in a Jackie O sort of way. Must cost a lot.

Gravatar Didn't Michelle Obama get cavier, and steaks (or some upscale, expensive meat) at the Al Smith dinner???....

Gravatar That was money well spent. Mrs Palin looks very elegant and wears those clothes as if "to the manor born".
And I agree with Brian Walden.

Gravatar yes, def more substance in the end.

however, those glasses are really cute that I may get some myself.....

Gravatar I agree with the majority here. $150,000. is a pittance for good clothes for 6 people, particularly when it comes to the office that Sarah seeks. Todd probably needed a few good suits, and they are not cheap!

I hear that the Waldorf/Michelle Obama story was untrue. Well, at least it's been confirmed that she did not stay at the Waldorf at that time, which, to some, disproves the allegation that she ordered lobster and caviar as a snack there.

However, the fact that she did not stay at the Waldorf does not mean that she did not eat there. So, the veracity or lack thereof is still uncertain.

Gravatar I won't defend excessive spending on clothes by any party, but you're right to put it in perspective.
Hypocrite Democrats are racking in the money while claiming that people are suffering. I guess there is no price too high to get Mr. Spread-the-Wealth-while-baby-killing into the White House.

Gravatar I'm suprised it's that LOW. Sarah is looking great, and I saw Todd at a rally last week, and he was looking mighty fine. $150,000 is nothing to dress a family of six for daily media events. Does anyone complain when our Hollywood gals spend hundreds of thousands on clothing? No. It's considered good business.

I wonder what Barbra Streisand's gowns cost for her gala that she held for Obama.

Plus, the money's well spent. We're dressing Sarah for 2008, and daughter Piper for holding future office. (Piper for President in 2044!) And of course, that little cutey-pie Trig deserves the best.

Gravatar Amazing you could find something of "subtance" related to Palin.

Gravatar WOW, My mom dressed 6 kids, and I dont recall her clothing budget being $150,000. I find it amazing what we will justify and then point the fingers at other people.

Gravatar Lame, Thomas. You spin everything favorably to the GOP. I don't see the need to pursue a "No Enemies on the Right" policy just because the Church is against abortion. What this shows is that Palin's populist rhetoric is empty and phony. I prefer Sargeant Shriver, who was supported by factory workers and working class people. When Shriver would make a campaign stop in a bar, he would order the exxpensive French beer that he liked -- he didn't try some phony populism like Palin. He was himself.

Gravatar No complaints. Show them legs, girl.

Gravatar "if Sarah doesn't wear the duds that are typical of your modern Washington woman, she'll be ridiculed as a backwoods hick. "

umm...have you ever been to washington? "typical" clothes here don't come near the price of palin's.

"When's the last time anyone in the press gave a moment's thought to the price of Obama's suits or cufflinks?"

betcha they don't cost anywhere near as much as mccain's.

"Hey, I'm sure this is stuff she couldn't afford herself (being a real middle-class person)."

lol@that. did you see her tax returns? over a quarter mil. (not to mention the per diems.) stop buying into your wet dream and look at facts.

" I've price-checked good clothing, and a total of $150,000 to clothe and accessorize her AND her family is not that much."

when are you scheduled to get back to reality? post a comment when you do. we'll have a welcome back party.

"Yeah, Michelle Obama always seems dressed to the nines in a Jackie O sort of way. Must cost a lot."

maybe so. but she earned the money to pay for her clothes.

"Didn't Michelle Obama get cavier, and steaks (or some upscale, expensive meat) at the Al Smith dinner???...."

first, its caviar. second since when are steaks as extravagant as a 150000 closet, third the report you learned that from has been retracted by the post. don't let facts get in the way, though.

"No complaints. Show them legs, girl."
wow. just. wow.

If you can't wow 'em with your policy, experience or knowlesge, use your accessories, I suppose.

Gravatar I'm a bit baffled by your blog entry, actually. So you seem to agree that $150,000 is perhaps a bit excessive in terms of supplying new clothes to Mrs. Palin, but then want to just brush it aside because she supports one of your political values?

Isn't that the fundamental problem with politics today, that we have to accept the mediocre candidates that get to the top of the heap from both parties. Has voting always been choosing the "least of the evils" rather than the "best of the best"?

Still, my family of five, combined, and including fancy duds, couldn't even figure out how to spend $5000/person, let alone $25000/person.

For that matter, why is the RNC dressing her children anyway?

Gravatar I discovered that the clothes and accessories will not be kept by the Palin family.

They will be later used for charitable purposes, most likely auctioned off.

Gravatar What a non-issue.

Dressing well is expensive, and that's especially true with women's fashions. Add in accessories, and it's not hard for a single outfit to surpass $2000.

As to why the campaign would pay for it, and why it would be a legitimate expenditure, it's called "marketing".

It would be highly unusual for Palin herself to be purchasing the clothes. Much more likely is an image consultant group is determining what her entire family should wear at each event, and they're the ones buying the clothes.

Wasteful? Sure, but election campaigns are extremely wasteful.

I love how this type of thing is somehow an issue, when the real issues are ignored. More red herrings for us to get distracted by. Instead of talking about abortion, or the war, or the economy, let's talk about how much money the McCain campaign spent on the Palin family's image.

Ouch, rolling my eyes this much is causing lots of pain.

Gravatar "Has voting always been choosing the "least of the evils" rather than the "best of the best"?"

When it comes to McCain/Palin, I would not cite her clothing (which, as atheling noted, will be donated.) as the reason I would call the ticket "the lesser of two evils". McCain's support for ESCR would be a good reason for that title.

She's not keeping the clothes. She probably didn't want them, either. After the election, they will be given charity. What more do you want, Mr. Infantcide, focusing-on-the important-issues candidate?

Gravatar McCain has announced that her wardrobe will go to charity after the election. Obama is using his excess to build himself an altar in Chicago.

Gravatar It only makes sense that the party would have to foot the fashion bill for her, after all, politicians don't make a lot of money when they fail to systematically pilfer funds from those they govern. Sarah has a lot to learn about politics don't you know.

As for the price tag? Meh, hot chicks are always expensive.
