Gravatar Okay, it looks like two nuns, a man in a bee costume, a dancing jester, and a fellow wearing a red biretta, hopping about in red and white robes and boxer shorts, all of them in a sit-com kitchen. Looks let the set-up for a bad joke.
Needless to say, I have no idea what's going on. Nor am I sure I want to. This does look like one of these avant-guard things, where the first scene is labeled "Several weeks later".
I still think it sounds like a sequel to "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe".

Gravatar The play is by Dario Fo, famous playwright and Nobel Prize winner. Famous for political satire, especially. (And let's face it, most people think of the Catholic Church as a political entity.)

So. Famous author. Famous play. Right in line with current political sensibilities (pro-abortion and pro-drug). Written in such a way as to deliberately cause a furor and spark discussion. It's not hate-speech; it's political theater, and it's right in line with what political theater has been doing for the last fifty years.

The solution is not to protest (Hey, let's all make ourselves look like censorious prudes! That's earn some converts!). The solution is to stage other plays that provide equally meaty food for thought.

IMO.

Gravatar Several local Twin Cities bloggers and myself have been protesting this play since last Fall. It looks like it will go on.

I will be there opening night praying my Rosary. Prayers for strength are needed.

Gravatar "In the Pope and the Witch, Dario Fo takes the Pope on a journey of awareness from smug comfortable isolation, through crippling paranoia, to acceptance of his true potential and responsibility to the world community.
The scenic metaphor reveals the world of the Vatican as a facade and theatrical sham propping up a little megalomaniac man."

The Devil's been trying to say the same thing for 2000 years, but being a non-corporal being, he can't.

BTW, the jerk is a known communist wannabe. Get over yourself, Dario!
