I totally agree.
And it's "Hear, hear!" Short for "Hear him, hear him!"
Similar idiom to "Listen to him go!"

Wonderful ... issuing apologies has become a fad. Like a committee, like meetings, an apology has become an end, not the means to that end.

Well, if one were planning to apologize to Darwin, how would one address the apology?

Saint John the Evangelist, pray for us.
Saint Michael the Archangel, pray for us.
Saint Gabriel the Archangel, pray for us.
Saint Raphael the Archangel, pray for us.
Saint Charles the Darwin, pray for the fittest.

I totally totally totally agree. Apologies for things that one is NOT personally responsible for, and bears no consequecnes for, is bogus.

AMEN!!
I'm still irked that the Pope apologized for the treatment of Galileo, who idiotically decided that his theory (with wasn't even provable at that point in time) REDEFINED theology. THAT is what caused him all those problems, up till that point the Church was SUPPORTING his research. Aside from the fact that apologizing for something you didn't even do is stupid to begin with.
And WHY should the Church apologize to Darwin?? We are the only sane ones in that matter who state that science teaches HOW and religion teaches WHY, thus evolution has no effect whatsoever on religion. It's the other Christians who are scared of it and fighting science with theology and making us look bad. THEY should apologize to US for making Christians look anti-reason.
Ok, I'm getting back down off my soapbox now...

Yeah, I'm always tired of hearing 'apologies' for things that happened long before we were even born!
PC at its worst.....
