Must be Polish on his mother's side if he was rector of the basilica. Would also make sense in that Milwaukee traditionally has a Polo-American auxilary.

You don't suppose that the existing Auxiliary, Bp. Sklba, is of the Polish persuasion?

Congratulations to the new bishop, but the interesting thing that I picked from Roc is that Archbishop Dolan is the front-runner to succeed Cardinal Egan in New York. John Allen once said this long ago, but it's interesting that even a year or two later, Dolan is still the favorite. Given the influence of Cardinal Rigali as king-maker, I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise.

When I think of great archbishops (not necessarily famous, or flashy, or whatever, but GREAT), I think of men like Burke, Chaput, and Dolan.

Archbishop Dolan who gave homily at the Red Mass in Washington, DC is a wonderfully pastoral man, a sensitive ecumenist and willing to engage the laity in the work and mission of the Church. Of course, there are a handful of Milwaukeans who have kept up the criticism they launched against his precedessor. Oh well!
