Sorry to be a science nerd, but only storms over the Atlantic are hurricanes - storms over the Pacific are typhoons.

Actually, it's a hurricane... according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, they're called hurricanes in the North Atlantic, the Northeast Pacific east of the dateline, and the South Pacific east of 160E. (basically Australia). They're called typhoons in the Northwest Pacific west of the dateline (Japan-ish).
Mr. Peters - here's the link to the NOAA which defines all the terms. The difference is more or less regional.
