AmericanPapist Comments

I must say I am torn on the media's coverage of the Pope's stand on environmental issues. I must admit its nice to see the Church getting some positive coverage. But you are right in pointing out the flaws in the reporting.
I must also say I fully support the Pope's stewardship of creation emphasis. I think that this position is quite consistent with the pro-life/social justice ethic of the Church. I think there is a link between disregard for the environment and disregard for human life. I am curious to know if many other Catholics feel the same way.

Gravatar Curious what will happen to the Pope's SUV?

Gravatar I'll reserve comment until I see what, if anything, the pope actually says.

Gravatar The Vatican seems pretty green. Is it not appropriate to accept it and move on?

Gravatar No! The Church teaches the Global Warming is a farce and CO2 is irrelevant! Environmentalism is merely Communism in disguise! That is the truth, the Church teaches the truth, and so that is what the Church teaches whether the Pope thinks so or not. The Pope can talk from now until the fourth millennium but he cannot make the Church deny the truth about the evils of environmentalism, the virtues of industrialists, and the moral neutrality of pollution.

Gravatar "The Vatican seems pretty green. Is it not appropriate to accept it and move on?"

Thanks for making my point about the presence of misconceptions on this topic.

Gravatar As for the second comment, sarcasm is the last refuge of those without argument. Thanks for proving my point again.

Gravatar Anonymous 2, you quite miss the point...environmentalism is not something the Church supports. The Church would never back any "ism". It is than fair to say that environmentalism is a kin to communism since both are systems or ways of life unto themselves. When the Church takes up these causes like poverty and environmental concerns she does so because she sees how these issues are woven into the Christian ethic. To seperate the poor, justice issues, stewardship of creation, etc. from Christ is precisely the problem we have to be rescued from.

Gravatar Where can I find this document:

"The Church teaches the Global Warming is a farce and CO2 is irrelevant!"?

Also: "Environmentalism is merely Communism in disguise!" Reveals a gross misconception of Communism.

And J.D. Aquila:

What about "Thomism" or "Catholicism" These are "isms." Watch your hyperbole.

There are better issues to get flustered about instead of "Vatican solar-panels." Gain some perspective.

Gravatar I think Benedict is far too intelligent to get dragged into this liberal fantasy. Of course the Church teaches we must be good stewards of the earth. But to get into specifics of which theories are appropriate or which course is appropriate is to revisit the Galileo controversy all over again. Anything the UK Independent prints is suspect. It is not a credible news source and would make Joseph Goebbels very proud. Tom

ps I don't think pursuing this agenda will get the folks back into the pews as much as Summorum Pontificem might.
