I'm glad you're finally coming around to understanding the Pope's positive position on national and international regulations that protect the environment. It's more than mere conservationism, however, but also restoration and distribution.
I'm not sure you meant that Pope Benedict "transcends" (such a feat would be more than admirable!) but that he emphasizes the "transcendent" value of water. Big difference in terms of coherency and semantics.

Exactly how is it news that ANY pope would have water as a key issue? Have you been to Rome? The whole city's water and fountain system was practically built by the Vatican in the Renaissance and later. I do believe the appellation "Pontifex Maximus" originally has something to do with bridgekeeping, doesn't it? Also, I see no possible way of actually being pro-life without water use also being on the table. Human beings, and everything else organic for that matter, are primarily made out of the stuff.
