Gravatar On one level this is a disturbing development. This case is extremely problematic however, in that, although the implications may seem far-reaching, the reality is that the doctors in this case were dancing with the Devil to begin with.

My understanding is that the doctors herein refused to perform artificial insemination on the plaintiff, not because these doctors never perform artificial inseminations, but rather because the plaintiff was an unmarried lesbian.

Artificial insemination is fine for cows, condors, or giant pandas, but not for people. This medical procedure goes against Catholic teaching, certainly. I am assuming these doctors were not Catholics or much hay would have been made of that by the press.

There is no mention of what particular denomination the defendant doctors in this case belong to, or how their denomination views their partial accommodation of this practice with their patients. Nevertheless, if a physician chooses to engage in a particular type of medical procedure, then they open themselves up to liability by denying this procedure to patients who are otherwise healthy and able to afford the procedure.

While there are certain implications from this decision that could be addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court if it would choose to take this on appeal (and which could be addressed in a context related to how religious medical providers or pharmacists have to deal with certain issues), this is not the perfect test case for this issue. I suspect that Roberts et al., would not want to take this one and wait on something a bit more clear-cut.

Gravatar In the name of letting people act according to their morals, we have to force people to act against their morals. It proves relativism is wrong because enforcing it requires acting against it.

Actually, it really proves that no one is a real relativist, and that relativism doesn't really exist. Relativism is really totalitarian, and it's just a smokescreen to fool or beat others into submission to the so-called relativist's own (a)moral code, which tolerates no opposition. Witness what happened to CMA. And there is a right to do this.

The true relativist would let the doctors refuse to inseminate anyone they pleased, let the bigot speak his mind, etc.

Gravatar Great debate going on in the discussion forum over at the LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/news/ loca...0,2388017.story

Gravatar I am waiting for the day when I am able, for the sake of righteousness, to go to jail and count it as a good because of Christ to uphold the teaching which He gave to us. I pray that all US persons who are "of faith" recognize what is happening and the load of PR rubbish that is being heaped upon them in this election year. Stand up now or be ready to see your priests persecuted for upholding the Truth of Christ. It is happening other places already and the slippery slope is here in the US. We do not look to offend or to hate, this would be offensive to Christ, but we are called to love, genuinely, which entails being a true friend, not a buddy, and with all Charity, out of love of God and neighbor, at times to say that some things are just plain WRONG, IMMORAL, and EVIL. I pray for doctors, pharmacists, and others who are already facing these trials of faith and encourage them to remain strong and faithful. If you need encouragement, read Acts of the Apostles and remember the BIG picture. God Bless!

Gravatar Quite frankly and unabashedly,I'd tell the Justice to ''go inseminate ''herself,in no uncertain terms.

I'd refuse to cooperate,up to and including imprisonment for failing to toe the homo line.
