Please note Zollitsch's age. The new generation of bishops is not very far away. Thank God the dioceses in former East Germany, where I am from, have been mostly spared.
Actually, communist persecution had a better effect on the Church than this liberal goo.

That is truly unfortunate.
Bishops are suppose to be countercultural. So much for that.

CWNews, which normally presents salient points accurately
You may want to re-evaluate your judgment on the "accuracy" of CWNews. Consider the following:
Disconcerting Trends at Catholic World News
Congratualions CWN
The dilettante journalism and amateur theology over there speaks for itself.

a) "normally"
b) the CWNews summary agrees with two german sources.
c) I'm really not sure how a journalistic source could exhibit "amateur theology".

I read on either Whispers in the Loggia or the New Liturgical Movement, a comment that Abp. Marx should get some time to adjust to being the Archbishop of Munich, and once Zolltisch goes back to our Heavenly Father, Abp. Marx will be an even better candidate

Clarification: it was on Whispers in the Loggia
"The bishops passed over another, more conservative candidate, Reinhard Marx, 54, who has been freshly enthroned as archbishop of Munich.
Lehmann said it would do Marx good to deal with the challenges of the new archdiocese first.
Marx's auxiliary bishop, Engelbert Siebler, said, "I expect Marx will be elected to the job in six years."

I don't think Archbishop Marx is conservative. Perhaps in comparison to the Bishop Zollitsch, he may seem so. I wouldn't be too optimistic about Marx.

Most German bishops engage in the same kind of advocacy of heterodoxy. Now if you really want to get worried, Cardinal Caspar also is part of the same ilk. I visited and talked to the counselor at a Catholic Charities (Caritas) counseling center in his diocese under his tenure as bishop. I was horrified to see in the waiting room, material from Planned Parenthood on contraception and the morning after pill, etc. Also there was material on lesbianism. There was no pro-life literature at all! This was in Caspar's diocese while he was Bishop!
Now Caspar says we are not to evangelize Jews because they may feel insulted! By their fruits you will know them.
We were scandalized when Pope John Paul made Caspar and Lehmann cardinals. I heard Hans Kueng waxing euphoric about Lehmann receiving the red hat on the radio. Kueng hoped that Lehmann would be able to block the election of an Opus Dei bishop as pope! A most amazing theory on Kuengs'part.
A Hamburg 'Catholic' bishop, as recently as five years ago, supplied his crisis pregnancy centers with suitcases full of sample contraceptives for the women who came for counseling.
Another bishop actively supported with money efforts to sterilize and to increase contraceptive use in the third world.

c) I'm really not sure how a journalistic source could exhibit "amateur theology".
a) "Sometimes" is a more apt description (clear to anyone with a basic understanding of journalism).
b) You make it sound like we have a corroboration and consensus among disparate sources. It looks to me that CWNews relies on the other stories. Very big difference.
c) Catholic World News. Are you insinuating that CWNews articles contain no theology? If so, I fear you may not have much of a theological radar.
